Double your Dose

Hey all!
Happy Sunday!
As soon as I'm done this post I'm going to cook myself up a hot dog and enjoy a noon hockey game.
Sounds pretty luxurious to me ;)
And I'm very happy to say I'm almost done my crochet project!
I've been really lazy with it this last week because I know our time together will be over soon.
Another baby to set free into the universe. Damn post-partum.

Today I've got two manicures featuring polish I scored at  AuttyW's blog sale.
:D (thanks girl!)
First up I have a gradient with Zoya - Neve, a beautiful sapphire metallic.
I can't believe I didn't pick this up when it was first released, this colour is right up my alley!

I paired it with Zoya - Richelle, a bronze leaning gold with holographic particles.
And that was that! Give me a simple metallic gradient and I'm satisfied.

Keep it simple has always been one of my mottos ;)
All you really need is bold simplicity.
_ _ _

When the China Glaze textures first came out I thought they were the worst.
But It's been a year and my opinion of them has mellowed. Now I'm intrigued.
Autty's sale was the perfect chance to try one out. So I grabbed Bump & Grind, a bright dark pink.

This is three coats, it's a bit on the sheer side. But the texture spreads like a dream.
I love how matte and stucco-y it is. It's a nice contrast to my usual Pixie Dusts.

With Color Club - Kismet & Cosmic Fate using MoYou Fairytale Plate 04
I stamped some very cute little stars. I would have loved this mani as a little girl. <3

I'm glad I decided to give China Glaze textures a try.
I was pleasantly surprised.
Any polishes you initially hated, but then grew to love?

Uh oh, got to go, game's on!
Have a good one!

Hot for Holo

Hey all,
It's officially spring, and the sun is shining.
I even saw the hint of blossoms on the trees!
As my Dad says "It smells like baseball season!"
I always get really excited. The kid in me still looking forward to summer break.
Despite the fact that it's been 10 years since I've experienced such a thing.

So I decided to flex my jeebjeeb art muscles since they've been atrophying lately.
Holo polish and two of my favourite techniques. A recipe for salivation.

For the gradient I used two I Love Nail Polish shades.
Music Box, an enchanting sea foam green & PT 78, an awesome gunmetal grey.
That was pretty spectacular, but I needed more holo goodness!

So I splattered with Color Club - Miss Bliss
The hot pink is the perfect contrast! Complete and utter eye candy.
Manicure complete! I am sufficiently satisfied. *.*

I'm going to spend the rest of this beautiful afternoon crafting a world class chilli. ^.^
Slow cook it to perfection. And then settle in with a 5pm hockey game.
What are you up to today?
Whatever it is, have a good one!

Holographic Citrus Dance Party

Hey all!
Last night I had the pleasure of seeing The B-52's in concert!
It was a childhood dream come true.

Months ago I was lamenting to a co-worker how my biggest regret was missing them last time they were in town.
And the very next day at lunch I see in the newspaper "B-52's on sale today!"
It was meant to be. Praise be to the music gods!

For a group with their kind of sound, bright and colourful nails were a must!
Something goofy and fun.
So I opted for a holographic citrus skittle!

So much holo goodness! (drooling)
And I'm thirsty for lemonade.

direct sunlight
indirect sunlight

What do you think?
Bright goofy and fun enough for you?
I'm not usually a big fan of skittle manis.
But if it's holographic, anything goes.
Too much is not enough!

I used Nubar - Reclaim and
Color Club - Kismet, Cosmic Fate & Miss Bliss

I dragged Dagadelic  to the show with me of course.
I cannot wait for her to post her concert mani.
We were totally on the same wave length. :)
So check her out soon!

Dagadelic also sent me this amazing live performance on Saturday Night Live in 1980.
They were so fantastic. And I'm proud to say they still are.
They've totally got it. Super high energy and just... happy.
You can always feel it when an artist is genuinely having fun performing.
It sparkles the performance. And their show was just as dazzling as my manicure.
Enjoy!

Hope everyone's having an excellent weekend.
I spent my morning recovering from last night.
But it was totally worth it. :)
Have a great night and an awesome manicure.

Cheeky Stamping Extravaganza

Hey all,
Last week I had the pleasure of going to Dagadelic's university graduation ceremony.
We made an event of it, dinner with friends and a concert.
In honour of her day I told her to inspire my manicure.
So she says...
"Purple, sparkle, stamping"
The first 2 are D to a T.
And stamping?
Hallelujah girlfriend!
Perfect time to use my new Cheeky Stamping Plate "Viva Mexico"

"Don't walk behind me; I may not lead
Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow.
Walk beside me and be my friend"
Albert Camus

This one's for you D!

A holographic/creme gradient with skull stamps!
I know it's kinda strange, skulls for a graduation.
But the large sugar skull reminded me of one of D's old Halloween costumes.
And I just went with it.
Graduation. Movement. Growth. Change. Mortality.
There. Now it makes sense.

Unfortunately I was being lazy and didn't snap pictures until 3 days after painting.
But it held up incredibly well, with minor filing.
I'm really happy with it. The colours are great together.
Everything pops :)

I had to do some of the smaller stamps on my thumbs.
They're too cute to pass up! I love that little mariachi!

I used Color Club - Eternal Beauty & Sally Hansen - Lively Lilac for the gradient
And stamped with A-England - Tristam

I'm really happy with my Cheeky Viva Mexico plate.
The images are etched quiet deeply and transfer amazingly.
This plate especially is like none other I've seen before.
This is right up my alley, I'm a sucker for Mexicana.
If you like stamping, check out Cheeky
Great prices, fast shipping, tons of selection.

Here's the first manicure I created using the plate.

The images are larger than Bundle Monster so you don't have to worry about being so precise.

I love the guy on my thumb. It looked absolutely amazing.
So bold and crisp.

I used Color Club - Over the Moon
& Zoya - Reagan

That's it folks.
Time for hotdogs with my little brother.
Going to load up on hotdog relish (my favourite) and sauerkraut! Om nom!
Have a great Monday and an awesome rest of the week.

Holo-Dust Fantastic

Hey all,
How's your week going?
There are a million little things I wanted to do this evening.
And so far I've only done one :P Argh!
So I'll just let the nails do the talking.

I've been dreaming of combining the Colour Club holos with Zoya PixieDust for a very long time.
And it turned out just as I'd hoped! Drool-tastic! :O

This may be one of the girliest manicures I have ever concocted.
It feels like I'm wearing a designer handbag on my nails. Does that make sense ?_?

I really REALLY love it though. What do you think?

I did the gradient with Color Club Over the Moon & Miss Bliss
And the next day I used Zoya Godiva and striping tape to create the semi-quilted look.

I used 6 pieces of tape for each finger. It was a bit time consuming but I did it while watching Gangster Squad.
What a fun movie. The cinematography was amazing, everything looked so good.
And it was quite violent, but in an over the top comic book kind of way. I cheered a few times, it was that much fun :)
If that sounds like your kind of good time, check it out, it's a blast!

I will leave you with Kit-kat looking more blissed out than I have EVER managed to capture her.
I couldn't believe it. Usually she's the picture of cool and reserved.
I like to think the snugly crocheted blanket had something to do with it.
When I grow up, I want to be a cat. sigh.

Have a great night and an awesome manicure!

Easter Chevron

Hey all,
How's your week going?

Mine's been slow. I can't wait for Friday. A night out with some work bitches. I'm going to eat as many donuts as I can. Yes, donuts. It's going to be the greatest worst night ever :) Until then I'm left dreaming of powdered sugar and chocolate whipped cream fillling. Droolling.........
When it comes to baked goods I'm a donut and pie kinda girl. I can't get enough pie. What about you? What desserts do you desire? Totally random, sorry. We just don't have enough amazing donut places around here, so I only get the really good stuff once a year. It's like  a trip to an amusement park. Man that sounds sad. :|

Anyways, nails :P I did this on Easter Sunday.
Kind of easter egg-ish. My first chevron mani!

I love the mix of creme and holo finish. Simple and flashy.
The Colour Club holos are amazing. Hypnotic and fantastic. Sigh.

I used normal scotch tape, not striping tape, to create the chevrons.
You have to be fast though. The holos like to melt the tape :S
I can't believe this is my first time creating chevrons. >.<

Tape manicures are definitely one of my favourite. There are so many things you can do.
What do you think about tape manis? What are your favourite designs?
I used Color Club - Kismet & Eternal Beauty and Zoya - Purity

Muse-ic
I was feeling rock n' roll today so I thought I'd leave you with something special. It came on my ipod at work today and it was hard to resist singing along. It's an anthem of sorts. If you've never heard The Supersuckers you are in for a treat. Here's "Born with a Tail" Enjoy!

What do you think? Doesn't that chorus make you want to sing? "You know! I'm in league with Satan..."
Ahh so good. Have a great night and an awesome manicure!

Holographic Laser Show

Hey all.
Happy long weekend! Woot woot! Any big plans? It has been absolutely beautiful here in Vancouver, so I want to get out and enjoy it. Go for an urban hike. Go on the swings at a playground. Maybe play some frisbee! It's been awhile. How do I outdoors again?  (?_?)

I have some very exciting blog news! My Blu Skies manicure was featured on Nail Polish Canada's Favourite Swatches of the Week! I am not worthy!!! But so grateful. :) Thank you NPC <3 Check it out , 7 other bloggers are also featured with some very beautiful designs.

This week I finally received the Color Club Halo Hues 2013 collection. This is my second time buying an entire collection. I've been coveting this one a long time. Every rainbow particled one of them. They're just too fabulous. How could I pick only a few? So in that spirit, here's my first ever "skittle" manicure!

Look at all that holographic goodness! It's insanity!
I don't think any colour outshines another. And none disappoint.
What do you think?

Application was flawless. Dry time was very quick.
Color Club has outdone themselves. I absolutely love these holographics.
They look unreal, trippy and extraordinary. Nails of the future. And the future is now!

If you want to see another sweet Halo Hues manicure check out my good friend Dagadelic.
She has some stunning and very Easter themed (I think) nails using the warm shades of the collection.

From left to right - Miss Bliss, Over the Moon, Eternal Beauty, Kismet, Cosmic Fate & Beyond

I decided to go with Jimi Hendrix today because I think he would have appreciated my manicure. I love Jimi, a brother Sagittarius, flying the freak flag of free will and expression. Whether it be in music, clothing, or nail art. Be what you are. Be free. And don't let anyone else tell you who or what you can be.
This is a great live version of I Don't Live Today. There are some awesome shots of audience members dancing like maniacs. Makes me wish so bad that I was a youth then. But until we build a time machine, there's only youtube...

Have a great Easter and an awesome manicure!

Totally Holo

Hey all,
How was your weekend?
I had a damn good one.
Can't beat celebrations, art and a winning hockey game :)

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day. It's been a while since Vancouver's been bright and cheery, so I wanted my manicure to capture that feeling. Even if the sun goes away (it did the next day) I'll still have my uplifting manicure. And if you know me, you know a sun shiny manicure has to be holographic.

And not just any holo, but my favorite. Nubar - Reclaim
It is such an amazing green, like a psychedelic Emerald City.
What do you think? How do you feel about holographic polish?

You may not notice, but I actually stamped over top with Color Club - Cloud 9

It's really hard to tell when in bright light.
Here it is in the shade.
Vaugely reminds me of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The tiny tiny holo particles

Let's Spin a Yarn...

I finally had the wherewithal to take photos of a couple of my crocheted pieces! Got to remember to build that portfolio, even if just for my own amusement.

First up is the manly birthday scarf I made my hermanito. He was kind enough to model it for me.

Looks warm and comfy to me. Yay!
Makes me feel all satisfied inside.

Next is the lace cape made for Dagadlic. It took 5 months to create and is the most stunning piece I have made so far. I've already decided to make one for myself in a few years, it was so much fun.
Only one photo for now. Though I plan to post a million over the years. <3

It really is quite a piece. So soft and amazing. I wore it once and totally fell in love. Makes me want to do more crocheted beading like I did on the front. It was so much fun and much easier than I imagined.

My current project is far less interesting. It'll be great once it's finished, but it's basically two rectangles of the same stitch, over and over again. Puts me to sleep at times XP
Anyone have any interesting projects on the go?

Muse-ic

I have some new music to share with you today! Last night I got the new Tegan & Sara album, Heartthrob. When I read they were going in a synth pop direction I was incredibly hesitant. I tried to stay open minded and give them the benefit of the doubt. I gave each song 45 seconds and wasn't feeling it. Until I got to Shock to your System. I really like it. And because of that song I gave the album another go. And I listened to that album on repeat all day at work. :O Enjoy!

There's a lot more than meets the eye with these women.
What do you think?

Well I must skadaddle. Hockey game in a few minutes!
Have a great week and an awesome manicure!

Holographic/Nude Gradient Manicure with stamp

Buenos noches!
Hope everyone had a great Saturday. I went to the dentist. Yay :| So I'm making it up to myself with tea and art! Mmmmm... soul food. In keeping with trying to be more creative I decided to do a gradient with a stamp overtop. I love gradients. Simple to do, visually stunning and the sky's the limit when combining colours. Here's just the gradient on it's own.

I decided to pair a holographic (Colour Club - Cloud 9), just a smidgen of a jelly (Zoya - Paloma) and a nude (Zoya - Sari)

I think it's pretty stunning. And also one of the most girly manicures I've done in a while. I used the nude, Sari, as my base. I love Sari. Not only is it an amazing light pink nude, it's also my mum's name. I plan on giving her a namesake manicure soon, but I'm keeping it a secret until then.

Here's the holographic shining in the winter sun. It was a wonderfully beautiful day today.

Once I got back from the dentist I reward myself with a stamp job! Something that wouldn't take away from the gradient, but add more visual interest. So I decided on a strange abstract pattern of random x's in Quo by Orly - Red Hot.

left

Each finger is stamped uniquely. I could say it was for aesthetic purposes but that's only half true. The stamper I use is red, which makes it incredibly hard to place a red design. So I embrace the chaos. Which finger is your favorite?

right

thumbs

You may wonder why I do the mugshot. Well I love tea just as much as I love nail art. And whenever I do my nails you can bet I'm drinking tea. I have four artisan mugs that are my children and are in constant rotation. So I'd like to show them some love. Oftentimes my manicure has perfectly complimented my mug. Totally unconscious I swear.

Now on to spinning a yarn...

What's in the yarn bowl today?

100% sugar cane yarn! :O I love exotic fibres. They fascinate me. I was so excited I bought 3 different colourways! They're just beautiful. The yarn has incredible shine and is so soft! I had planned to make a scarf for my brother in law out of the yarn pictured in the bowl. I bought it online and it appeared darker on screen than in reality. When I received it I asked a few work mates if it was too girly, and they assured me it wasn't. But once I started working it I realized it was too feminine for a 22 year old guy. Sigh. Oh well. I guess that means some one else special will get to have it. :)

Here it is in Ninja Star stitch. Gorgeous <3

My muse and mascot Kit would like to wish you all a great weekend, good night and a gorgeous manicure!
