Guacamole, Sour Cream & Salsa

Hey all,
Hope you enjoyed the solstice yesterday.
I experiences a miracle!
I actually tanned a bit without burning!
No forgotten strips on my shoulders. None of my "what do you mean I didn't put sunscreen on my kneecaps?"
I'm finally getting better at this.

To celebrate the new season I've got a manicure that I think is super summery.
I call it Guacamole, Sour Cream & Salsa

I used a base of KBShimmer - Honeydew List
Splattered with Zoya - Purity and Nubar - On The Radar
And topped it with the ever amazing Model City Polish - Seize The Rainbow

Maybe it's just me, but this mani seriously makes me crave nachos or a burrito.
And a margarita on a patio...

I love the spots on my index finger of this hand.
I think it's a little vampirey. ;[

Ahh, just look at that magical twinkle.

Have a good one.

How to Attract Attention

 Hey all,
I've got something super cool to share with you today.
Indigo Bananas Glow in the Dark Topcoat! :O
What what you say?
You heard me.
Glow in the fricken dark.
When I first found out about it I told Lucas.
He thought it was pretty cool.
Then a few days later he asked me if I ordered it yet...
And a few weeks after that, I was talking about a polish shipment,
and he said "glow in the dark polish???", his face lit up with expectation...
Umm... no?
Obviously someone really wanted this glow in the dark topcoat.
I waited a while longer to torture him and then eventually grabbed a bottle of Teal.
And yes, it comes it 3 different colours!
Green, Blue or Teal.
How cool is that?
Well... see for yourself...
(This is two coats.)

Pretty damn cool huh? I'm still shocked and awed.
And I noticed something.
It wasn't just Lucas. Men LOVED the glow in the dark.
I would tell them it glowed in the dark and their face would totally change.
Their eyes would light up, they'd drop everything, completely transfixed.
You wouldn't believe it. Perhaps it brings out the kid in them.
All the single ladies!!
Word of advice.
If you want to attract men you need glow in the dark topcoat!
Seriously, it will get way more attention than that low cut shirt or short skirt.
Repeat. Man magnet. Moths to a flame.

By day you can see the beautiful Nubar - My New Obsession (I am obsessed!!)
stamped with Konad - Black using  MoYou Suki Plate 10
This totally makes me think of the old Batman tv series from the 60's.

So amazingly cool! Don't you think?
What would you do with glow in the dark topcoats?
Playing around with tape would be a lot of fun.
But that's another manicure for another time. :)

Can't Stop the Stamping

Hey all!
I just got back from a trip to my local deli. :)
Walking home with a bag full of meat, I feel so satisfied even though I have yet to eat any.
I love my deli. It's my own personal candy store. Sausages, pies, kabobs, tenerloins, stewing beef!
Nothing beats a good cut of meat. I love meat culture. It's in my blood.
While I was growing up my father worked in a beef plant. He was always bringing home something delicious.
And so he passed on his immense love and mastery of red meat on to me.
Burgers, meatloaf, steaks, stew, roasts. Bring it on!
Am I making you hungry? I'm fricken hungry!

Anyway, enough of my meat mutterings...
On to the mani!

I just had to use my Viva Mexico stamping plate again.

I used Sally Hansen - Soy Latte as my base. It's such a fantastic neutral. I'm surprised by how much I love it.
But then again, it looks like tea, so of course it makes me feel warm and happy.
I would be very interested to see a comparison of Soy Latte and Zoya - Flynn since they look quite similar.
From what I can tell, Soy Latte seems more creamy, whereas Flynn looks nuttier. Now I'm thirsty...

I stamped using Konad Special Polish in White, always a dream to work with.
But it needed a little extra something, so I added dots/ random splotches of Nubar - on the Radar.

I really love this manicure. The little bit of red totally made it.
It makes me think of rustic pottery and adobe houses.
What do you think?

I hope you're having a good week and enjoying the slight chill in the air.
I cannot believe September is almost over. But that's all right with me.
Only one more week till the hockey season begins!
Always got to have something to look forward to :)
Have a great night and an awesome manicure!

The Obliteration Room

Hey all,
How are you doing on this wonderful hump day?
I must say that I've been feeling really great lately. Despite life's trials and tribulations.
Just because I'm mentally good, doesn't mean everything's been easy peasy. Life isn't easy. (Should it be?)
But I'm dealing better. I'm feeling secure in myself. And, my god, it feels great!
Even the dwindling sunlight and the creeping chill of autumn isn't getting me down.
But seasons are merely a temporal distraction anyway.
Because it keeps getting warmer and brighter inside my mind.

Today I would like to share a Yayoi Kusama art installation with you.
The Obliteration Room

The interior of a house was constructed in the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, everything painted white.
Children visiting the gallery were then given colourful dot stickers to put where they please.

Over the course of two weeks this is what happened...

I think it's quite a breath taking piece. I love the contrast of the blank sterility and the colourful chaos.
Perfect inspiration for a manicure.

This manicure was a lot of fun. I did it a month or so ago while hanging out with my little brother.
He said I matched the colours well and gave me a thumbs up, so I'm happy.
What do you think?

I used Zoya - Purity as my base
And dotted with Sally Hansen - Lickety Split  Lime & Brisk Blue
Barry M - Dragonfruit & Satsuma and Nubar - Resort Yellow

Here's the song that's been stuck in my head all day.

Hope you enjoy the last 3 days of summer.

Vacation 3-for-1

 Hey all,
I'm back from vacation!
I got some much needed r & r in the country.
Swimming in the lake was the best part. I'm a water baby, but lakes are my favourite.
We made lots of yummy food and watched fun movies. I crochted like crazy.
And I managed to finish the book I started the day we arrived!
So satisfying. The book was a pretty meh Stephen King, but overall a fun read.

I went away with Dagadelic, so you know manicures were afoot.
Deciding which polishes to bring was a bit painstaking, but I managed to narrow it down to 7.
And wouldn't you know it, used them all! So pleased.

First up
Pretty & Polished - Tomboyish & Zoya - Purity

Tomboyish is a colour changing polish. I used it once before in this manicure.
It was so warm out I was unable to capture it in it's cold state. But you can see the difference from the bottle.
I love this polish either way. In the lake, however, I had an awesome gradient going.
Just the thing to space out on while drifting away.

Next up, I brought a few of my most summery shades.
piCture pOlish - Citrus
The Nail Junkie - Watermelon
 Zoya - Reagan

I used citrus as a base and then sponged with all three
for the ultimate summer gradient...

I was so happy with this one. It's the gradient I've been dreaming of for weeks. Sunsets and popsicles.
Just a hint of Watermelon's shimmer running throughout. I wont soon forget this one.

Last but not least I have
Enchanted Polish - Congratulations & Nubar - Resort Yellow

I LOVE this yellow. I have found my perfect shade.
Not too golden. Not too neon. Juuust right.

And Congratulations? Well I think "holy crap" is the best way to describe it.

This disco fantastic manicure knocked my socks off.
Resort Yellow took 3 coats, but look at how perfect it is!

I'd have to say this one is my favourite of the three. What about you?

I'm back to work tomorrow. Trying not to think about it.
At least I know I'll have nail mail to look forward to ;)
Have a great night and an awesome manicure

Dagadelic's Poison Dart Frog Mani

Hey all!
I'm super excited to be celebrating Dagadelic's birthday tomorrow!
I've got a lot of good times planned for her.
Ok, well most of the good times revolve around food.
But you can't beat home cooking!
As a little pre-birthday ode to D I tried my hand at her Poison Dart Frog Tutorial.

I really like how they turned out. Toad-ally awesome!
It was super fun to create. And I recommend the tutorial to anyone.
Poison Dart Frog is THE latest animal print.
Get with the times!

I loved D's original in blue, but I just had to try it in green.
And it's perfect, though I think it would work in any colour.
I'm especially interested to see it in orange/yellow or purple :)
What do you think?

I used Nubar - Into the Wild as my base.
Sponged on Zoya - Neely and just a hint of China Glaze - Unpredictable to give it that touch of shimmer
Then I dotted on China Glaze - Gussied Up Green

I'm waiting for my fresh birthday mani to dry before I pass out.
I've got presents wrapped and chicken wings ready for the picnic.
It's going to be a good day tomorrow.

Have a great night and an awesome mani!

Show & Shine

Hey all,
How was your week? And how's your weekend going?
I've been neglecting my blog again -_- I'm a week behind! dammit.
I'm most happiest when my posts are current. Once it starts to pile up it feels like work.
But then again, posting as often as I change my manicure also feels like a chore.
I'll have to decide on some happy medium.

Last weekend Dagadelic and I ventured out to a fabulous Show & Shine vintage car show.
So many amazing cars and such great art inspiration!
This show has a special place in my heart because it marks the one year anniversary of my decent into nail art madness.
Last year I came back from a week of vacation determined to start mixing up my plain vanilla manicures.
The first thing I did was try my hand at a gradient. And the rest is history...

I wanted to celebrate that manicure, with a little something extra on top. :)

As soon as I started the splatter I fell in love. It all came together so perfectly.
It is amped up colour fantastic. Over the top summer.

The whole time I was creating this, all I could think was
"this looks like my childhood!"
Does anyone else born in and around 1986 agree?

I love all the really fine splatter I was able to create.
I didn't want to overpower the gradient.

I used Nubar - Resort Yellow & Essie - Off the Shoulder to create the gradient
And splattered with Nubar - Pyramid Purple & Into the Wild

On the Turntable...

Since the B-52's concert I've been listening to a lot of... B-52's. (They were that good.)
And it turns out I do have one of their albums on vinyl.

Bouncing off the Satellites
I've listened to it twice. :S Truth is, it's my least favourite album.
The others are great. I urge you to check out Wild Planet or Whammy, both lesser known goldmines.
Turns out, shortly after finishing this album Ricky Wilson (guitarist and brother to Cindy) died of health complications due to AIDS.
Pretty tragic stuff for such a happy band.
This is Cindy's solo song Girl from Ipanema Goes to Greenland
Makes me sad seeing only 4 of them bopping around in the music video.
Enjoy.

Took my brother out to see Grown Ups 2 today.
It was a lot of fun. We laughed like crazy, I definitely recommend it.
Then we walked all the way home, it was such a gorgeous day.
Tomorrow I hope to lay low. Stay home and work on art and secret birthday plans. Muahaha!
What are you up to?

Have a great weekend and an awesome manicure!

Metallic Accents

Hey all,
How was your week?
Since my last post I've been grooving on accent fingers.
Specifically beautiful metallics accenting stunning cremes.
I guess I've been a bit lazy art wise, but I feel the colours speak for themselves.
I painted two accent manicures this week (I told you I was grooving!) so you get a 2 for 1 :)

I wore my Beachy Stripe mani for two days before I was hankering for something royal.
I wear this combo so infrequently. In fact, it may even be my first gold/purple mani. :S

I used Nubar - Pyramid Purple as my base.
It is a perfect grape flavoured purple, though the photos come out a tinge more brown than real life.
It is deep, but still a very bright and vibrant shade.
I would recommend to anyone looking to expand their purple collection. ( ;) D)

The gradient was done with Zoya - Solange
It is the perfect crowning glory for this royal manicure.
I applied two coats of Poshe topcoat to really make it dazzle.
It makes me think of a sunset (or maybe a sunrise, but I haven't seen one of those in years :P)

After that fantastic manicure I needed to cleanse my palette with teal. (I love teal. I'm an absolute teal freak.)
And some silver! Why not? A complete opposite flavour!

I decided to use my Cheeky Viva Mexico stamping plate for Aztec-y goodness.
It NEVER disappoints. drooling...
I'm in love with this. So crisp and bold!
What do you think?

I used Topshop - Jewel in the Crown as my base.
The formula is superb! No streaks. And when it dries, the finish is like stained glass.
Oh, and the colour! Fantastically rich, this is aptly named.

I stamped with A-England - Excalibur - the old version
I'm really sad there's a new version. I think this is the perfect silver, hands down.
And stamping with it is an absolute dream! Sigh...
I'll be on the lookout for this baby. I need to stock up.

I'll be mixing it up soon. Take an accent mani break for a bit.
But when the mood strikes, I say go with it.
I don't know about you, but every time I decide to paint my nails I usually have an immediate impulse about what I should do.
And I find that if I don't listen to that voice, I end up completely unsatisfied with my nails, even if they're amazing.
Everything I do comes from the gut. I don't plan or strategize, I just feel.
And then puke it out.

I hope everyone has a fun weekend.
I have my day planned tomorrow, but there will be more on that next post :)
And another session of On The Turntable coming up, I promise!

Have a great day and an awesome manicure!

Holographic Citrus Dance Party

Hey all!
Last night I had the pleasure of seeing The B-52's in concert!
It was a childhood dream come true.

Months ago I was lamenting to a co-worker how my biggest regret was missing them last time they were in town.
And the very next day at lunch I see in the newspaper "B-52's on sale today!"
It was meant to be. Praise be to the music gods!

For a group with their kind of sound, bright and colourful nails were a must!
Something goofy and fun.
So I opted for a holographic citrus skittle!

So much holo goodness! (drooling)
And I'm thirsty for lemonade.

direct sunlight
indirect sunlight

What do you think?
Bright goofy and fun enough for you?
I'm not usually a big fan of skittle manis.
But if it's holographic, anything goes.
Too much is not enough!

I used Nubar - Reclaim and
Color Club - Kismet, Cosmic Fate & Miss Bliss

I dragged Dagadelic  to the show with me of course.
I cannot wait for her to post her concert mani.
We were totally on the same wave length. :)
So check her out soon!

Dagadelic also sent me this amazing live performance on Saturday Night Live in 1980.
They were so fantastic. And I'm proud to say they still are.
They've totally got it. Super high energy and just... happy.
You can always feel it when an artist is genuinely having fun performing.
It sparkles the performance. And their show was just as dazzling as my manicure.
Enjoy!

Hope everyone's having an excellent weekend.
I spent my morning recovering from last night.
But it was totally worth it. :)
Have a great night and an awesome manicure.
