Peaches n' Creampuff

Hey all,
Here's something really luxurious.

Sinister Benediction - The One Ring & Scofflaw Nail Varnish - Ruff Tuff Creampuff
together in a tape mani I can't help but refer to as Peaches n' Creampuff

I used Creampuff as my base colour, two coats for opacity.
This nude has some fantastic peach shimmer that really pops with topcoat.
It's just so damn cute! Without being cutesy. Just feminine, delicate and sophisticated.

Once Creampuff was dry I used a couple pieces of tape and applied The One Ring.
This polish is also extraordinary, red glass fleck gives it a warmth and wonder of no other gold.
I'm not a LOTR geek, but... this polish seriously makes me think "my preciousssss..."

I felt pretty damn posh and angelic wearing this. What a great combo hey?
I had a feeling they would go well together, but it's like they were made for each other!
A polish match made in heaven.

Hope you're having a good Monday.
Back to work for me tomorrow. :)
Bring it on.

#101

Hey all,
It's a bright and beautiful first weekend of the year!
I'm so glad the holidays are over. And not just in a bah humbug way.
The world winds down to a complete stop. I feel it in my soul.
I'm tired of feeling tired. I'm sick of the desire to hibernate.
But the change is finally here. I can feel it.
Everyday I'm a little more awake and alive.
Everyday gets just a little bit brighter.

I hope you had a good New Years Eve.
I spent the night with my dad, no big partying over here.
And I caught a cold that day, so I'm extra glad I didn't do anything.
Just played some games and watched a movie while sneezing like crazy.(・へ・)

I don't believe in new years resolutions, but I have one this year.
I'm going to give up alcohol for 3 months.
I don't have a problem with it, never had. But I am very conflicted by it.
Don't get me wrong, I love to go out for a cocktail. It's the perfect social outing.
I love the intimate nature of it. Nothing between you but words and beverages.
But, can't the same be said for tea...?
I have half a bottle of Gin in my freezer, so this is the ultimate test.
Sometimes it's good to restrict yourself.

Here are my last two manicures of 2013

Esmaltes da Kelly - Giovanna with A-England - Encore Margot

Giovana was one of my birthday polishes from Dagadelic <3 now I have two babies with my almost namesake.
This Gio is a beautiful sky blue with tiny purple hexes and pink particles.
Super cute. Paired with Encore Margot, it's pretty dreamy.

Contrary Polish - River Market

This was love at first swatch for me. I knew I had to have her.
Dark purple base full of smouldering red shimmer.
My photos do not do justice. I'm going to work on that.

I was planning to bling out more for new years, but then decided against it.
This polish is like the after glow of a fireworks display.
Understated, just like my evening.

First Manicure of 2014
But first I have some news.
My last post was my 100th post. And tomorrow is my one year blogiversary!
(●^o^●)
I have a fun little something coming up very soon, so stay tuned!
Now on to how I started my year
A-England - Her Rose Adagio

Stamped with Konad - Black using MoYou - Sailor Plate 05
I recently heard talk that this stamper was far superior to what I had been using.
And the talk was right! The stamper is so crazy squishy, my super curved nails are no match.
It's literally a whole new world, it even made me want to sing that song.
Oh right, and Her Rose Adagio is gorgeous!

Well I hope you're having a great start to your year.
I'm feeling hopeful.

creepy and sullen and running out of room

It's not even winter yet and mother nature has said "It's on!"
Time to stay in, crank the heat, and drink a bunch of warm beverages.

Models Own - Apple Pie
(a bluer leaning cousin to Zoya - Neely)
stamped using A-England - Tristam & MoYou Suki 06
It's a scented polish, unfortunately two coats of Seche obliterated any of that.
But who cares, that colour is just darling.

Smitten Polish - Cocoa and Cardis accented with Sally Hansen - Soy Latte & triangle studs
I obviously had beverages on the brain.
I did this one quite awhile ago. Lost 3 studs in the first 24 hours.  (._.)

Wing Dust - Grey Sky Morning
I put this on the morning after my birthday party. It was exactly what I was feeling that day.
Both this polish and Apple Pie were some of my birthday gifts from Dagadelic (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
She always picks an amazing assortment. Thanks girlfriend!
I left this polish on for longer than usual. It was so twinkly and mellow.

Pretty & Polished - Leaf Me Breathless

Hey all,
That's right! You're getting 2-for-1 today!
I was hoping to be more productive, blogwise, this long weekend.
And since I'm at the end of it, I might as well cram in as much as I can.

I have something very interesting for you today.
Pretty & Polished - Leaf Me Breathless

Leaf Me Breathless is a yellow jelly packed with brown, red, orange, green, gold & yellow glitter.
Definitely not for everyone, this polish compelled me since I first laid eyes on it.
There's just something about the yellow jelly.

It's so weird, it works. What do you think?
I waited to wear it until after the leaves really began to change, and it was perfect.
All the colours create an autumn wind storm of wonderful. I kept looking at the trees, and then my mani.
They totally nailed the concept of this polish.

I used Zoya - Nina and some tape to create my accents.
I felt I needed some brown, but was a bit lazy :P

I used two thick coats. As usual with P & P, the formula rocked and the glitter was abundant.
What do you think? Like it? Or is it just too bizarre?

Here's the song I've been singing to myself for the last two weeks.
So good! Think I'll have to download some Doris Day movies now. :)

I'm spending the rest of my day off crocheting :D
Have a great day and an awesome manicure!

Vacation 3-for-1

 Hey all,
I'm back from vacation!
I got some much needed r & r in the country.
Swimming in the lake was the best part. I'm a water baby, but lakes are my favourite.
We made lots of yummy food and watched fun movies. I crochted like crazy.
And I managed to finish the book I started the day we arrived!
So satisfying. The book was a pretty meh Stephen King, but overall a fun read.

I went away with Dagadelic, so you know manicures were afoot.
Deciding which polishes to bring was a bit painstaking, but I managed to narrow it down to 7.
And wouldn't you know it, used them all! So pleased.

First up
Pretty & Polished - Tomboyish & Zoya - Purity

Tomboyish is a colour changing polish. I used it once before in this manicure.
It was so warm out I was unable to capture it in it's cold state. But you can see the difference from the bottle.
I love this polish either way. In the lake, however, I had an awesome gradient going.
Just the thing to space out on while drifting away.

Next up, I brought a few of my most summery shades.
piCture pOlish - Citrus
The Nail Junkie - Watermelon
 Zoya - Reagan

I used citrus as a base and then sponged with all three
for the ultimate summer gradient...

I was so happy with this one. It's the gradient I've been dreaming of for weeks. Sunsets and popsicles.
Just a hint of Watermelon's shimmer running throughout. I wont soon forget this one.

Last but not least I have
Enchanted Polish - Congratulations & Nubar - Resort Yellow

I LOVE this yellow. I have found my perfect shade.
Not too golden. Not too neon. Juuust right.

And Congratulations? Well I think "holy crap" is the best way to describe it.

This disco fantastic manicure knocked my socks off.
Resort Yellow took 3 coats, but look at how perfect it is!

I'd have to say this one is my favourite of the three. What about you?

I'm back to work tomorrow. Trying not to think about it.
At least I know I'll have nail mail to look forward to ;)
Have a great night and an awesome manicure

Simple Tape Up

Hey all,
How's your weekend going?
This morning I woke up wanting to create a bold tape manicure.
So after my first two cups of tea... and a long time playing Candy Crush... I got to it!

I used Nubar - My New Obsession & A-England - Excalibur
I absolutely love the combination of these polishes. So flashy.
Then again, silver is awesome with everything.

I really like this manicure. What do you think?
I love bold crisp geometric lines.
There's something almost art deco about it.

I watched a documentary the other night called Crazy Love. It was so interesting and bizarre.
It's hard to stop thinking about it.
If you're into docs, I enthusiastically recommend it.
It will definitely intrigue you.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Have a great day and an awesome manicure.

Jamaican Mon-icure

Hey all,
Happy Monday :|
How was your weekend?
I didn't finish my crochet project as I'd hoped. I spent too much time zoned out on the net :P
But it was worth it and not a complete waste of time. So new goal, finish project by end of the week.
I'm pretty leisurely when the projects are only for me. I actually started this one in June of last year. :S

Thankfully I was able to complete a manicure.

I did a lovely tape job using the other Nubar polishes from the same collection as My New Obsession
And I couldn't resist topping it with Northern Lights topcoat.
I have a feeling this is going to happen quite often :)

But after all that I didn't feel that the manicure was done yet.
3 colours and glitter, but just not satisfied.
So I decided I had to try water spotted nails

But I was in one of those incredibly ambitious AND lazy moods.
I re-watched some tutorials and was totally ready for a new challenge.
Except I didn't have any spray hand sanitiser (as most tutorials call for) and I was too lazy to go to the store.

Instead I searched my bathroom for anything in a spray container with alcohol as the main ingredient.
And viola! Lucas' old and unused hair spray! I was saved!

Well... maybe not.
Here's a warning for you. If you are going to attempt the water spotted technique do not use an aerosol can.
I either sprayed too little or waaaaay too much, obliterating the polish.
I should have known better. But I was determined to see it through.

Despite my frustrations, I like it. I'm satisfied. manicure complete.
What do you think? Did I ruin a perfectly good tape up?

I'd have to say my favourite finger is the thumb on the right.
That was the first one I did and it looks the most like a true water spotted.
I used Sally Hansen - Blackout, Nubar - On the Radar, Resort Yellow & Into the Wild and Northern Lights.

Everyone at work commented on how Jamaican my colours were.
So that's why I named it my Jamaican Mon-icure.
And to continue with that theme...

Muse-ic

Of course I have to pick a Bob Marley tune.
But I never pick the obvious, no matter how much I love Jamming or I Shot the Sheriff.
Did you know before Bob was the king of rasta he was a teen hearthrob?
I didn't learn this till I recently watched Marley a documentary from 2012.
That's why I love documentaries. You learn so much!
Like Bob Marley and the Wailers covering American teen songs and infusing them with ska flavour in 1963!
Enjoy!

Have a great week and an awesome manicure!

Easter Chevron

Hey all,
How's your week going?

Mine's been slow. I can't wait for Friday. A night out with some work bitches. I'm going to eat as many donuts as I can. Yes, donuts. It's going to be the greatest worst night ever :) Until then I'm left dreaming of powdered sugar and chocolate whipped cream fillling. Droolling.........
When it comes to baked goods I'm a donut and pie kinda girl. I can't get enough pie. What about you? What desserts do you desire? Totally random, sorry. We just don't have enough amazing donut places around here, so I only get the really good stuff once a year. It's like  a trip to an amusement park. Man that sounds sad. :|

Anyways, nails :P I did this on Easter Sunday.
Kind of easter egg-ish. My first chevron mani!

I love the mix of creme and holo finish. Simple and flashy.
The Colour Club holos are amazing. Hypnotic and fantastic. Sigh.

I used normal scotch tape, not striping tape, to create the chevrons.
You have to be fast though. The holos like to melt the tape :S
I can't believe this is my first time creating chevrons. >.<

Tape manicures are definitely one of my favourite. There are so many things you can do.
What do you think about tape manis? What are your favourite designs?
I used Color Club - Kismet & Eternal Beauty and Zoya - Purity

Muse-ic
I was feeling rock n' roll today so I thought I'd leave you with something special. It came on my ipod at work today and it was hard to resist singing along. It's an anthem of sorts. If you've never heard The Supersuckers you are in for a treat. Here's "Born with a Tail" Enjoy!

What do you think? Doesn't that chorus make you want to sing? "You know! I'm in league with Satan..."
Ahh so good. Have a great night and an awesome manicure!

St. Patrick's Divergence

Hey all,
Happy St. Patrick's Day. I'm not Irish, but green is my favorite colour. So today deserves an extreme amount of green. :)
I was inspired by Nailside, one of my favorite bloggers. Her designs are absolutely stunning and her tutorials are excellent. When I first saw her "divergence"manicure I fell in love. It's so bold and crisp, with an excellent name (I love me some good vocabulary) When she posted this second version my heart skipped a beat again. Here's my St. Patrick's Divergence.

I used Enchanted Polish - Mean Mr. Mustard, Nubar - Forest & Zoya - Vespa
and good old fashioned scotch tape

Mean Mr Mustard is a beautiful green/gold duochrome with tiny scattered holographic particles
Forest is a super glossy deep green. It's always makes me think of classic cars.
And Vespa's texture makes a great contrast.

I really like how it turned out. Very dramatic and luxurious.
What do you think? Would you try a divergence manicure?

Nail art wasn't the only kind of art I got up to this weekend.
Lucas and I did some excellent jewelry crafting. Not only that, but nail polish jewelry! :O
We went a little crazy with glass cabochons and made a bunch of stud earrings and one necklace.

The necklace was Lucas' design. It was his idea to stamp on the glass, I hadn't even thought about it.
But what a brilliant idea indeed. I executed the stamping and painting, and he set it. Go team!
I'm really excited to make more. It was a great activity to get me thinking about polish in a different light.
And I ended up making earrings out of combos I never thought to put together before.
You can expect a manicure inspired by a set very soon! :)

How was your weekend? Any crafts? Art? Movies? Books?
I'd love to know what's inspiring you at the moment.

Well that's all for now. Time to dive back into my book! I feel bad, I've been ignoring  my crochet. :P
Have a great night and an awesome manicure!

Blu Skies

Hey all,
How's your week going? I started my week well. I finished reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It was a fun book. If you enjoy violent mysteries, I definitely recommend it. I liked it so much I had to keep going and started the second book. I meant to post yesterday actually, but I just couldn't tear myself away. It feels good to voraciously read again. I used to constantly digest fiction when I was younger. But then it petered off to one or two books a year :S Hopefully the tide has changed and I will return to my bibliophilia.
What also made the beginning of the week great was two beautiful days of sunshine! Exactly what I had wished for. On Sunday I sat in my window and painted my nails to match the sky.

I used Zoya - Blu as my base. It is the most fantastic and delicate robin's egg blue.
And I'm not usually into baby blues. But this one has sophistication.

For the accent finger I used one thick layer of Zoya - Nyx
and my handy dandy stripping tape

I love the textures. It feels so cool!
And looks super awesome, I think.
What do you think?

The PixieDust & Lovely Collections are made for each other <3
I can't wait to put more combinations together.

Kit-Kat also got to enjoy her first day on the patio this year. Trolling for spiderwebs may resume! She loves spiderwebs. They're candy to her.
I hope everyone has a great week and an awesome manicure.
