A Broken Beam Of Light

Hey all,
Saturday is my best friend's birthday.
Well... I don't really like the phrase best friend.
Especially not for him, he transcends cliches.
The best way to put it is, I consider him to be a soul mate.
Our relationship is just as complex and intense as any "romantic" relationship.
We've experienced moments of complete unity.
But we've also hurt each other on purpose.
We've "broken up" multiple times.
Since we were 15 years old, we've loved, loathed and laughed at each other.
And I feel so lucky.
To find this other weirdo so like and unlike me at the same time.
This hilarious bird boy, all knees and elbows, bending over backwards to make me laugh.
And boy does he make me laugh.
The laughter inspires. He's my muse. My own Greek Godess.
He makes me want to be as weird as I actually am.
To exploit the *dirt* of life.

So I thought today I would share with you someone
who has inspired so much of who I am, and who I will become.
This is Shade.
He's an actor, model, photographer and muse to many.
That may sound pretentious, but he's not.
He's the most genuine person you will ever meet.
Here's a 3 min documentary some film students did on him recently.
They did a great job. I just watch it and smile.

And here's an ad he just did for Anxiety BC.
He made Cool Guy #3 shine! I think... (Watch the eyes, classic)

I hope you enjoyed those little tidbits.
We'll be having a sleepover on Saturday, which I always love.
His house is like the Tickle Trunk or Pee-Wee's Playhouse.
I feel like I can let go of the outside world and exist in our own reality full of tea and intensity.
I have a few surprises up my sleeve. I get to plan the whole day!
But shh! Because it's all secret. :)
(Love you dude, see you on Saturday!)

On to today's manicure...

A half moon with Model City Polish - Nemesis and Zoya - Bridgette

Nemesis is described as "green grey metallic blend with holographic pigment and red flecks"
It's such an interesting, hard to describe colour. Not bronze, not khaki, somewhere in between?
The best term would be - unique. Just try nailing it down, I dare you!

The men in my life were not impressed with this colour combo. I blame Bridgette.
What do you think? Nemesis totally steals the show but... it's not a bad combo, is it?
Bah, I don't even care! What's done is done! And just look at that holo twinkle. ^_^ LOVE!

Alright folks, that's all today.
I have last minute birthday things to attend to.
More damn ends to weave into Shade's technicolor wonder cape.
And, you know, sacrificing animals to the weather gods so it's beautiful on the weekend.
Have a good one!

Double your Dose

Hey all!
Happy Sunday!
As soon as I'm done this post I'm going to cook myself up a hot dog and enjoy a noon hockey game.
Sounds pretty luxurious to me ;)
And I'm very happy to say I'm almost done my crochet project!
I've been really lazy with it this last week because I know our time together will be over soon.
Another baby to set free into the universe. Damn post-partum.

Today I've got two manicures featuring polish I scored at  AuttyW's blog sale.
:D (thanks girl!)
First up I have a gradient with Zoya - Neve, a beautiful sapphire metallic.
I can't believe I didn't pick this up when it was first released, this colour is right up my alley!

I paired it with Zoya - Richelle, a bronze leaning gold with holographic particles.
And that was that! Give me a simple metallic gradient and I'm satisfied.

Keep it simple has always been one of my mottos ;)
All you really need is bold simplicity.
_ _ _

When the China Glaze textures first came out I thought they were the worst.
But It's been a year and my opinion of them has mellowed. Now I'm intrigued.
Autty's sale was the perfect chance to try one out. So I grabbed Bump & Grind, a bright dark pink.

This is three coats, it's a bit on the sheer side. But the texture spreads like a dream.
I love how matte and stucco-y it is. It's a nice contrast to my usual Pixie Dusts.

With Color Club - Kismet & Cosmic Fate using MoYou Fairytale Plate 04
I stamped some very cute little stars. I would have loved this mani as a little girl. <3

I'm glad I decided to give China Glaze textures a try.
I was pleasantly surprised.
Any polishes you initially hated, but then grew to love?

Uh oh, got to go, game's on!
Have a good one!

Opulence

Hey all,
How's your weekend going?
At nine o'clock last night I had a totally random urge to bake cookies.
And I'm proud to say by 10:15 I was scarfing down!
Since I didn't have any nuts or chocolate chips, I went with an easy peanut butter cookie recipe.
It was probably the fastest batch of cookies I've ever made. Highly recommended.
The hardest part is not eating them all at once, they're so crazy good fresh out of the oven.
Next time I'll be adding peanut butter chips, my ultimate weakness.

But on to nail polish.
I have another recipe that went together even more perfectly...
Zoya - Carter stamped with gold

Oh...My...Gorgeous. Just perfection.
Two coats of Carter, no base or topcoats, for the ultimate in textured sparkle.

I used Essie - Good as Gold and stamped with MoYou London Suki Plate 06.
It stamped so fantastically well, look at that awesome coverage.

I can't get over how amazing this combo is. What do you think?
Purple and gold are just made for each other, especially with texture and sparkle thrown in the mix.

It's another foggy day here in Lotusland. Dreamy and cottony.
Not inspiring any kind of activity within me.
What do you have planned this Sunday?
I'm off to make my third cup of tea and to start crocheting like crazy.
Have a great day and an awesome manicure.

Testing my MoYou

Hey all,
Happy Saturday!
I wanted to post my hockey mani today, but the game ended terribly. 4-1 San Jose :(
So forget it. They have to win a game before I show off my team spirit.
Thankfully I do have something that I'm really pleased with.

MoYou London stamping plates!

I discovered MoYou a few months ago. And holy crap! So many themes to choose from.
The variety is just amazing! I fell in love with a few plates from the Sailor & Suki Collections.
As soon as they arrived in the mail I had to test them out.

I used Sailor Collection - 05 and just look at that glorious detail! Crisp and fantastic.
I had to try the tentacles first. They're so fricken cool! Everything I wanted them to be :)

My base is OPI - Incognito in Sausalito.
It's hard to tell with the stamping on top, but it's actually a very dark navy blue.
AND! This is only ONE COAT!! Can you believe it?
Mad props to OPI for this one. So vampy, Iove it.

I stamped with my good old A-England - Excalibur (old version)
I cannot wait to try my more of my MoYou images. So far I'm very pleased.
If you're into stamping I highly recommend checking them out.
They just keep releasing awesome collections! So brace yourself ;)

There's another hockey game tonight.
So fingers crossed that they win and I can show of my fantastic tribute soon.
Have a great day and an awesome manicure!
