Aliquid Lacquer - A Pun on Teal

Hey all,
I've got a late night lazy for you...
Featuring
Aliquid Lacquer - A Pun on Teal

This gorgeous green leaning teal crelly is full of matte hexes of various sizes and colours.
White, red, green, blue, purple, pink, quite a whimsical mix.

I attempted to do some tone on tone stamping using Sally Hansen - Mint Sprint
& MoYou Suki Plate - 10. Not digging it, oh well.

A Pun on Teal on the other hand, exceeded expectations.
Although I'm a teal freak, I wasn't sure how I'd like the mix of glitters.
But it really grew on me. It's just so dang cute! It makes me want to go outside and have a picnic.
Even Lucas said it was cute, and he hates glitter. :)

Alright, I'm going go pass out now.
Have a great night!

Opulence

Hey all,
How's your weekend going?
At nine o'clock last night I had a totally random urge to bake cookies.
And I'm proud to say by 10:15 I was scarfing down!
Since I didn't have any nuts or chocolate chips, I went with an easy peanut butter cookie recipe.
It was probably the fastest batch of cookies I've ever made. Highly recommended.
The hardest part is not eating them all at once, they're so crazy good fresh out of the oven.
Next time I'll be adding peanut butter chips, my ultimate weakness.

But on to nail polish.
I have another recipe that went together even more perfectly...
Zoya - Carter stamped with gold

Oh...My...Gorgeous. Just perfection.
Two coats of Carter, no base or topcoats, for the ultimate in textured sparkle.

I used Essie - Good as Gold and stamped with MoYou London Suki Plate 06.
It stamped so fantastically well, look at that awesome coverage.

I can't get over how amazing this combo is. What do you think?
Purple and gold are just made for each other, especially with texture and sparkle thrown in the mix.

It's another foggy day here in Lotusland. Dreamy and cottony.
Not inspiring any kind of activity within me.
What do you have planned this Sunday?
I'm off to make my third cup of tea and to start crocheting like crazy.
Have a great day and an awesome manicure.

7 Deadly Sins Challenge - Sloth

Hey All,
We are now half way through the 7 Deadly Sins Challenge!
Bring on Sloth. Let's get lazy!

"Create a manicure inspired by your laziness... or whatever... I'm so tired..."

When I'm feeling lethargic I don't do any art. I pick something spectacular and let the colour do the talking.
What a perfect time to break out a brand new Zoya PixieDust!
I give you my quickest, laziest manicure possible.

What's lazier than a polish that requires no base or topcoat?
This took a total of 10 minutes.

I added the apple because I've been dying to use it, it's so fricken cute.
I applied topcoat to keep it in place. It's the first time I've used topcoat on PixieDust.
It's super pretty but not quite obvious in the photos.

This is Destiny. A lovely coral with golden shimmer.
Other than it's cheeseball name it is a gorgeous polish.
What do you think?

This bottle shot isn't right. It's really a deep coral. :P

Lisa from The Polish Playground was nice enough to nominate me for the Best Blog award.
It's pretty much the same as The Liebster. Answering and asking of questions.
In the spirit of my laziness I'll answer her questions but I won't be nominating anyone. :P

1. Do you have any siblings?
I have a younger brother. Much younger, 14 year difference. And I have adopted my boyfriend's little brother and his girlfriend as my siblings. So 3 younger siblings in total.
2. What's your guilty pleasure?
I don't have any pleasures I feel guilty about :P
3. What's your zodiac sign?
   Sagittarius.
4. What's your favorite color?
   Green. Especially dusty sage.
5. Your favorite genre of music to listen to?
   Rock n' Roll.
6. What's your one favorite nail polish at the moment?
That's a hard one! But I'll go with color Club - Beyond. Such a fantastic black holo.
7. What was your first ever nail polish you bought?
The polish that got me back into doing my nails was Essie - A Cut Above. It changed everything.
8. What colors do you have the most of in your collection?
    Greens and blues.
9. What's your favorite nail polish finish to wear?
Creme. It's just so smooth and sophisticated.
10. What's your most expensive nail polish that you own?
My $15 polishes. Enchated Polish & piCture pOlish.
11. Do you prefer short or long nails?
Medium? Not too long, not too short. If they're too long they're a problem at work and they chip faster.

In honour of this weeks theme I've got Lazy by The Heartless Bastards.
I don't know what she's saying half the time, but I still love this song.
Enjoy!

I hope everyone has a good weekend, and an awesome long weekend if you're in Canada.
Not looking too nice here on the west coast. It's grey and windy.
That's why I've planned a movie night. Cosy inside fun :) I can't wait.
If you're also having inside time you should check out the other Sloth manicures! There's some pretty fantastic art.
Have a great day and an awesome manicure.

Nine Years

Hey all,
Happy weekend! How was your week?
I celebrated my anniversary on the 11th.
Lucas and I have been together for nine years now.
Since I was 17... and he was 15 :O
We met in highschool art class. Of course, it had to be art class.
We bonded because we were both misunderstood outcasts with a flair for the artistic.
Nothing much has changed :)
I'm not the type of person to scream my love to the heavens, but I will paint it on my nails.
This one's for Lucas.

On my ring finger I used striping tape and a dotting tool to create Lucas' initials.
When I first met him he drew what I thought was some alien symbol, on everything.
Turns out it was just his initials angled and stacked on top of each other.

On my middle finger I created the roman numeral for 9. It's on the middle finger for a reason.
Over the years there have been people, masquerading as friends, who wanted to split us up.
That finger is for them.

Lucas chose the polish for this manicure.
Topshop - Jewel in the Crown & Zoya - Dahlia
He was a bit disappointed that the teal didn't pop more, but I think it's a striking combination.

I'm not a fan of love songs. Most of them are cheese-ball and gag-tastic.
So for Lucas I chose a rockin Liz Phair song which is closest to my kind of sentiment.
Enjoy!

Have a great weekend and an awesome manicure!

St. Patrick's Divergence

Hey all,
Happy St. Patrick's Day. I'm not Irish, but green is my favorite colour. So today deserves an extreme amount of green. :)
I was inspired by Nailside, one of my favorite bloggers. Her designs are absolutely stunning and her tutorials are excellent. When I first saw her "divergence"manicure I fell in love. It's so bold and crisp, with an excellent name (I love me some good vocabulary) When she posted this second version my heart skipped a beat again. Here's my St. Patrick's Divergence.

I used Enchanted Polish - Mean Mr. Mustard, Nubar - Forest & Zoya - Vespa
and good old fashioned scotch tape

Mean Mr Mustard is a beautiful green/gold duochrome with tiny scattered holographic particles
Forest is a super glossy deep green. It's always makes me think of classic cars.
And Vespa's texture makes a great contrast.

I really like how it turned out. Very dramatic and luxurious.
What do you think? Would you try a divergence manicure?

Nail art wasn't the only kind of art I got up to this weekend.
Lucas and I did some excellent jewelry crafting. Not only that, but nail polish jewelry! :O
We went a little crazy with glass cabochons and made a bunch of stud earrings and one necklace.

The necklace was Lucas' design. It was his idea to stamp on the glass, I hadn't even thought about it.
But what a brilliant idea indeed. I executed the stamping and painting, and he set it. Go team!
I'm really excited to make more. It was a great activity to get me thinking about polish in a different light.
And I ended up making earrings out of combos I never thought to put together before.
You can expect a manicure inspired by a set very soon! :)

How was your weekend? Any crafts? Art? Movies? Books?
I'd love to know what's inspiring you at the moment.

Well that's all for now. Time to dive back into my book! I feel bad, I've been ignoring  my crochet. :P
Have a great night and an awesome manicure!

Blu Skies

Hey all,
How's your week going? I started my week well. I finished reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It was a fun book. If you enjoy violent mysteries, I definitely recommend it. I liked it so much I had to keep going and started the second book. I meant to post yesterday actually, but I just couldn't tear myself away. It feels good to voraciously read again. I used to constantly digest fiction when I was younger. But then it petered off to one or two books a year :S Hopefully the tide has changed and I will return to my bibliophilia.
What also made the beginning of the week great was two beautiful days of sunshine! Exactly what I had wished for. On Sunday I sat in my window and painted my nails to match the sky.

I used Zoya - Blu as my base. It is the most fantastic and delicate robin's egg blue.
And I'm not usually into baby blues. But this one has sophistication.

For the accent finger I used one thick layer of Zoya - Nyx
and my handy dandy stripping tape

I love the textures. It feels so cool!
And looks super awesome, I think.
What do you think?

The PixieDust & Lovely Collections are made for each other <3
I can't wait to put more combinations together.

Kit-Kat also got to enjoy her first day on the patio this year. Trolling for spiderwebs may resume! She loves spiderwebs. They're candy to her.
I hope everyone has a great week and an awesome manicure.

Zoya PixieDust Gradient

Hey all,
How are you doing? I'm slowly getting over this cold. One more day of doing nothing but reading and pigging out on oranges should make me right as rain.
Rain. It's been nothing but rain for days. It permeates everything. Even my manicure.
On Friday I finally received the Zoya PixieDust collection! So excited. I've been anticipating this one for a long time. And I'm happy to say they do not disappoint. The first thing I had to try out was a PixieDust gradient. I didn't realize until later how much the colour combo reflected the gloomy scenery.

zoya-dahlia-london-nyx

These polishes are fricken amazing. Looks so interesting and feels so cool. Like a smooth pumice stone.
Sounds bizarre, but I like it. What's not to love about an added dimension to play with?
And you can't argue with that sparkle! It's like wearing crushed gems on your nails. I feel so regal.

zoya-dahlia-london-nyx

This is actually a 3 colour gradient, but the periwinkle was quite subtle and consequently camera shy.
I used Dahlia, London and Nyx.
The application was a dream and dry time was average.
I used London as my base and used the sponge method to create the gradient.
And as Zoya suggests, I did not use any base coat.

zoya-dahlia-london-nyx

I'm loving the PixieDust gradient and can't wait to experiment more! What do you think?
This is the first ever full collection I've purchased so you can expect tons of experiments.
I have so many ideas I don't know what to try first!
I like that kind of problem :)

Last post I shared Nina Hagen with you. So today I have to share who I believe is a perfect bookend to Nina, Klaus Nomi. If you could pick any two musicians to be your parents, who would you pick? Well, since I was a teenager I believed it would be the most amazing thing to have Nina Hagen and Klaus Nomi as parents. And yes, Klaus is gay. I have a belief that society has got it all wrong. Little girls should be taught to be tough and self reliant. And little boys should be taught to be sensitive and emotionally aware. Hormones drag us in the opposite direction anyway. Why shouldn't we try to counteract that? Every person I know would have benefited from such encouragement as a child.
And I guess it's the German in me that loves operatically trained new wave German weirdos. Klaus' stage persona came from his feelings of alienation, truly feeling like he was an alien. And Nina, well she claimed to have seen a UFO while pregnant and so named her daughter "Cosma Shiva". What does this have to do with anything? Nothing. I just love them so much.
Enjoy this live performance of Klaus. He is amazing. And if you like him, let me know. :)

I hope everyone has a great Sunday. If you have nothing to do, watch a movie! And if you don't know what to watch, watch Winter's Bone. It's a much better movie than the one Jennifer Lawrence won the oscar for. (But I am happy she won it.)
Have a great night and an awesome manicure!

OPI - The Impossible

Hey all,
Hope you've been doing well. I, on the other hand, have been sick the last few days. I hate these late winter colds. You watch them go round, praying that you'll be skipped. But eventually that tell tale sore throat takes hold. And try as you may to deny, the sneezing does not lie.
I'm trying to spend as much time snuggled in a blanket as I can. So this post is going to be short and sweet.
Since I wasn't feeling well I only had energy for a lazy manicure. What a perfect time to try out another OPI Liquid Sand polish. I absolutely loved Stay the Night. So a few weeks ago I broke down and bought The Impossible.

opi-the-impossible

It looks peachy in the photos, but in real life it's a much bolder coral red.
Packed with tiny glitter, hexs and stars, there's a lot of visual interest.
The bottle had a ton of stars in it, but I was only able to get one on each pinky.

opi-the-impossible

I love the matte sand finish. It looks so cool and feels so interesting. It never snags on anything.
Although I must note, I work with paper all day, and since there's no top coat I did leave a few streaks of colour.

opi-the-impossible

Here's a picture with flash, which shows a truer colour
and really makes the texture and star pop.
It's like lava stone or something.

opi-the-impossible

I'm totally digging it.
What do you think?

opi-the-impossible

I hope everyone's having a good week and is in good health. I'm going to get this sickness over with tonight. Tomorrow, by the time I go for a nice evening tea, I'm promising myself it will be gone. (begone evil demon! christ compels you!) Next post I will probably have some more textured polishes for you :D I'm so excited!
Until then, have a great week and an awesome manicure.
