Aliquid Lacquer - Puppy Love - Swatch & Art

Hey all,
I have something very special for you today!
A brand new limited edition polish for a cause.

Aliquid Lacquer - Puppy Love

What's really cool about this polish is that it benefits man's best friend.
Puppy Love retails for $11 (full size bottles only).
For every bottle sold $5 will be donated to the ASPCA!
And it will only be available for purchase during October!

Here's what Alison has to say...

You might know that the lovely lady on our polish labels is Trudy, our five-year-old rescue pit bull mix.
Trudy is such an irreplaceable part of our lives that we can barely remember life before her!
In honor of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, we decided to give back by creating a limited edition charity polish
that will be available through October only!

About 3.9 million dogs enter U.S. shelters every year, and 1.2 million dogs are euthanized (800,000 of them pit bulls).
Adopt a Shelter Dog Month seeks to call attention to the plight of these animals
and to encourage people to adopt dogs rather than going to a breeder.
No matter your preferences, you're bound to find a rescue dog that fits perfectly into your home!

We hope you're as psyched to help shelter dogs as we are!
Please help us reach our $250 goal by grabbing a bottle of Puppy Love and telling all your friends too!

Puppy Love is a bright teal full of stunning pink and gold flecks and holographic shimmer. This is two thick coats.
What a knock out! I gasped when I first unwrapped it, the pink flecks really catch the light.
It was only later that I noticed the holographic shimmer. And I can only call it magical.

I tried to come up with some Puppy Love themed nail art and here's what came out.

The base is Aliquid Lacquer - Gargoyle, so many beautiful flecks coming together in this gradient.
For the canine accent I stamped with MoYou London Suki Plate 10 using Konad - Black.

I topped the rest of my nails with Model City Polish - Never Tear Us Apart.
Heart glitter and more holographic sparkle? If this ain't love I don't know what is.

Help Alison reach her goal! Trust me, you will never regret owning this gorgeous shade.
There's only 30 days left! Pick up a beautiful polish, or... adopt a shelter dog! :)

Indigo Bananas - Acid Ocean

Hey all,
I'm getting pretty excited and anxious over here.
On Friday night I'm leaving for a holiday with Lucas & my Dad.
We're going up to a giant lake and will stay in a houseboat for a week!
Who needs lakefront when you can be right on the lake?
It was my Dad's idea, and it'll be the first vacation we've taken together since 2005!
Which is pretty crazy.
Dad & I used to go camping every year.
I had the most fun as a child when starting camp fires, hunting down sticks for marshmellows,
tearing through campsites on my bike, and scarfing down beans and hot dogs in my plaid flannel jacket.
That was the good life.
Then growing up and bullshit got in the way.
9 years later... I want some of that magic back.
Break out the propane lantern (still works perfectly!)
load up on the sunscreen, bug spray and air mattresses, and bring it on!
It's a jeebjeeb summer revival!

Indigo Bananas - Acid Ocean

Acid Ocean is a deep blue/green base full of aqua and green colour shifting flakies (love!)
and bronze to green shifting shimmer! Yep, flakies and shimmer, what's not to love?

As per usual with Indigo Bananas, the formula is exquisite! This is two coats.
It applied like a dream and despite the jelly look of this polish, there is no visible nail line.

I don't know what I love more, the shimmer or the flakies. Together they work such wonderful magic.

After seeing how beautiful The Mercurial Magpie's swatches were in matte,
I had to bust out my trusty matte topcoat for this one.
(Poor thing is about 2 years old, I think this will be it's last mani, time for it to see greener pastures )

And viola! Matte perfection! I fricken love it!
Look at how wonderfully the flakies pop. Mmmmm... Colour shifting goodness...
What do you prefer, shiny or matte?

I stamped with MoYou London Fairytale Plate 06 using Essie - Good As Gold
I'm so into the jellyfish, it's not even funny.
And on my thumb, I have the face of a mermaid! If only I could fit her on my other nails...

I'll be spending the rest of the week deciding what to bring with me.
No nail polish. No computer. And maybe no crochet.
(I think I just heard all of you collectively gasp)
What the hell am I going to do?
Friendship bracelets!! The best summer activity around!
That is, until you screw something up and have to undo your knots (._.)
Course, I have a lot of practise at that now :P
I'm a huge success at failing. But apparently it's the only way I learn.
And I'm quite learned ;)
Have a good one!

How to Attract Attention

 Hey all,
I've got something super cool to share with you today.
Indigo Bananas Glow in the Dark Topcoat! :O
What what you say?
You heard me.
Glow in the fricken dark.
When I first found out about it I told Lucas.
He thought it was pretty cool.
Then a few days later he asked me if I ordered it yet...
And a few weeks after that, I was talking about a polish shipment,
and he said "glow in the dark polish???", his face lit up with expectation...
Umm... no?
Obviously someone really wanted this glow in the dark topcoat.
I waited a while longer to torture him and then eventually grabbed a bottle of Teal.
And yes, it comes it 3 different colours!
Green, Blue or Teal.
How cool is that?
Well... see for yourself...
(This is two coats.)

Pretty damn cool huh? I'm still shocked and awed.
And I noticed something.
It wasn't just Lucas. Men LOVED the glow in the dark.
I would tell them it glowed in the dark and their face would totally change.
Their eyes would light up, they'd drop everything, completely transfixed.
You wouldn't believe it. Perhaps it brings out the kid in them.
All the single ladies!!
Word of advice.
If you want to attract men you need glow in the dark topcoat!
Seriously, it will get way more attention than that low cut shirt or short skirt.
Repeat. Man magnet. Moths to a flame.

By day you can see the beautiful Nubar - My New Obsession (I am obsessed!!)
stamped with Konad - Black using  MoYou Suki Plate 10
This totally makes me think of the old Batman tv series from the 60's.

So amazingly cool! Don't you think?
What would you do with glow in the dark topcoats?
Playing around with tape would be a lot of fun.
But that's another manicure for another time. :)

Aliquid Lacquer - A Pun on Teal

Hey all,
I've got a late night lazy for you...
Featuring
Aliquid Lacquer - A Pun on Teal

This gorgeous green leaning teal crelly is full of matte hexes of various sizes and colours.
White, red, green, blue, purple, pink, quite a whimsical mix.

I attempted to do some tone on tone stamping using Sally Hansen - Mint Sprint
& MoYou Suki Plate - 10. Not digging it, oh well.

A Pun on Teal on the other hand, exceeded expectations.
Although I'm a teal freak, I wasn't sure how I'd like the mix of glitters.
But it really grew on me. It's just so dang cute! It makes me want to go outside and have a picnic.
Even Lucas said it was cute, and he hates glitter. :)

Alright, I'm going go pass out now.
Have a great night!

Metallic Accents

Hey all,
How was your week?
Since my last post I've been grooving on accent fingers.
Specifically beautiful metallics accenting stunning cremes.
I guess I've been a bit lazy art wise, but I feel the colours speak for themselves.
I painted two accent manicures this week (I told you I was grooving!) so you get a 2 for 1 :)

I wore my Beachy Stripe mani for two days before I was hankering for something royal.
I wear this combo so infrequently. In fact, it may even be my first gold/purple mani. :S

I used Nubar - Pyramid Purple as my base.
It is a perfect grape flavoured purple, though the photos come out a tinge more brown than real life.
It is deep, but still a very bright and vibrant shade.
I would recommend to anyone looking to expand their purple collection. ( ;) D)

The gradient was done with Zoya - Solange
It is the perfect crowning glory for this royal manicure.
I applied two coats of Poshe topcoat to really make it dazzle.
It makes me think of a sunset (or maybe a sunrise, but I haven't seen one of those in years :P)

After that fantastic manicure I needed to cleanse my palette with teal. (I love teal. I'm an absolute teal freak.)
And some silver! Why not? A complete opposite flavour!

I decided to use my Cheeky Viva Mexico stamping plate for Aztec-y goodness.
It NEVER disappoints. drooling...
I'm in love with this. So crisp and bold!
What do you think?

I used Topshop - Jewel in the Crown as my base.
The formula is superb! No streaks. And when it dries, the finish is like stained glass.
Oh, and the colour! Fantastically rich, this is aptly named.

I stamped with A-England - Excalibur - the old version
I'm really sad there's a new version. I think this is the perfect silver, hands down.
And stamping with it is an absolute dream! Sigh...
I'll be on the lookout for this baby. I need to stock up.

I'll be mixing it up soon. Take an accent mani break for a bit.
But when the mood strikes, I say go with it.
I don't know about you, but every time I decide to paint my nails I usually have an immediate impulse about what I should do.
And I find that if I don't listen to that voice, I end up completely unsatisfied with my nails, even if they're amazing.
Everything I do comes from the gut. I don't plan or strategize, I just feel.
And then puke it out.

I hope everyone has a fun weekend.
I have my day planned tomorrow, but there will be more on that next post :)
And another session of On The Turntable coming up, I promise!

Have a great day and an awesome manicure!

7 Deadly Sins Challenge - Greed

Hey all,
It's that time again!

7 Deadly Sins Challenge! This week - Greed
Inspirations - Use your most expensive and precious polish & more is more.

On the top of my precious list is Enchanted Polish.
So I knew I had to do a Greed Gradient

I sponged the gradient over black, Zoya Raven, to make the polish pop

And since more is more, I topped it of with Northern Lights holographic topcoat to give it a little extra somethin-somethin
These polishes already contain this type of sparkle, so the topcoat is indistinguishable from the polish.
But my lord how it amps it up!

I used Enchanted Polish - Mean Mr. Mustard & Magical Mystery Tour.
They are some of the priciest in my collection, but it's their uniqueness that makes them the most precious.
That and their Beatles song names :)

Nothing more beautiful than polishes in sunset
I love these two together. When MMT is flashing purple it's like I have Hulk nails!
And when it's flashing Teal, Mr. Mustard looks much more gold.

What do you think?

I hope everyone has a good Friday tomorrow. Any weekend plans?
I'm so close to finishing my crochet project, I'm so excited!
My goal is to get it done this weekend, but I'll have to do some serious stitching.
Be sure to checkout the other awesome Greed manicures below!
Have an awesome weekend and an amazing manicure.

Nine Years

Hey all,
Happy weekend! How was your week?
I celebrated my anniversary on the 11th.
Lucas and I have been together for nine years now.
Since I was 17... and he was 15 :O
We met in highschool art class. Of course, it had to be art class.
We bonded because we were both misunderstood outcasts with a flair for the artistic.
Nothing much has changed :)
I'm not the type of person to scream my love to the heavens, but I will paint it on my nails.
This one's for Lucas.

On my ring finger I used striping tape and a dotting tool to create Lucas' initials.
When I first met him he drew what I thought was some alien symbol, on everything.
Turns out it was just his initials angled and stacked on top of each other.

On my middle finger I created the roman numeral for 9. It's on the middle finger for a reason.
Over the years there have been people, masquerading as friends, who wanted to split us up.
That finger is for them.

Lucas chose the polish for this manicure.
Topshop - Jewel in the Crown & Zoya - Dahlia
He was a bit disappointed that the teal didn't pop more, but I think it's a striking combination.

Muse-ic
I'm not a fan of love songs. Most of them are cheese-ball and gag-tastic.
So for Lucas I chose a rockin Liz Phair song which is closest to my kind of sentiment.
Enjoy!

Have a great weekend and an awesome manicure!

Enchanted Polish - Magical Mystery Tour

Hey all,
How's your week going? Got up to anything?
I finished The Girl Who Played with Fire. Like Girl with The Dragon Tattoo, it's a lot of fun. Lisbeth's secrets are slowly revealed. I think she's a great anti-hero. At turns silent and violent but also incredibly intelligent and moralistic. She's one of the most refreshing and complex female characters we've seen in a long time. Although she's on my role models list, I do have one major criticism. Why does Lisbeth need to get a boob job at the beginning of this book? It makes no sense to me. It made my B cups angry. She was so perfectly empowering and awesome until that moment. You could argue the author was trying to make her more real, giving her self esteem issues to humanize. You could argue. But I'm just a little too disappointed to argue. If the book was written by a woman maybe it would be different...

Well that was my feminist rant for the day. I do recommend the book though. The boob job is rarely mentioned and has nothing to do with anything (which annoyed me even further. You just drop that in there for no reason?...ok no more ranting)
Now I'm on to the third book! I'll be sad when I'm done. Anyone else reading anything? Any suggestions?

Alright, let's get to the nails.
Enchanted Polish - Magical Mystery Tour

Is this not absolutely fricken amazing? :D
Look at it in the bottle! :O

Magical Mystery Tour is a truly magical multichrome.
Flashing purple, teal, blue and pink with tiny little holographic particles scattered throughout

No matter what the lighting this always looked like at least two colours at once.
Even in dim lighting, I swear! Absolute perfection!

I originally planned to do some nail art. But I couldn't bring myself to cover any of this beauty up.
What do you think? Magical and Mysterious?

Muse-ic
Here's a little piece of jeebjeeb trivia for you. Magical Mystery Tour was the first ever album I bought with my own money. I think I was in grade 4. My dad was so excited. I didn't understand it at the time, but it was a big deal to him. I get it now. A rite of passage. I remember going to the record store and picking it out. Running home all excited to put it on. Then listening to it over and over again. I was obsessed with the Beatles as a child. OBSESSED. They were my number one till The Spice Girls came around :P Now I can't even listen to The Beatles anymore.
But every now and then I like to get a little nostalgic and slap on...

Have a great night and an awesome manicure.

Serpentine

Hey all.
Happy Friday! Hope you're having a great one.
I'm super excited about this weekend. NHL hockey is back! :) Finally. 3 months spent in darkness. No body checks. No goals. No tension you could cut with a knife. (Hockey is the ultimate soap opera.)
I'm a big Vancouver Canucks fan. And tomorrow is their first game! So I plan to have a tiny celebration. Nothing is more Canadian than hockey and alcohol! I can't wait.

Hockey aside, on to the manicure!
I was feeling metallic so I decided to bust our Zoya's Richelle. I've had this polish for a while, but I've only ever stamped with it. So I decided to use it as a base and stamp over top of it this time.

I feel so dumb. Because I never knew this polish had tiny holographic particles. I was shocked. And so happy.

It's quite spectacular.
My boyfriend suggested I stamp with the snakeskin pattern in teal, so I went with it. I used a combo of Topshop - Jewel in the Crown & Essie - Trophy Wife.

I'm happy with the results. And so is Kit-Kat.

She was being a sport, and posing for me. See that smile? She's a pro.

I'm going to cut this one short and get on with the rest of my Friday. Have a great weekend y'all! I can't wait to see my friends and spend time on my passions, and all those other good things weekends bring.

Have a goodnight and a great manicure!
