Sieze the Apple Pie

Hey all,
I have another lazy late night post for you.
And when I say lazy late night I mean I'm writing this in bed right before I pass out.
Let's get on with it so I can have another one of my going back to high school dreams that I love so much :|

Models Own - Apple Pie
covered in one coat of Model City Polish - Seize the Rainbow

sunlight
Apple Pie was gifted to me by Dagadelic and it's amazing. Probably one of my top three favourite cremes.
It makes me feel like I'm in California, don't ask me why.
And then with the addition of Seize the Rainbow?
Boom. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

artificial light
Great, now I'm going to fall asleep thinking about apple pie.
And I'll dream about being chased by a giant zombie pie.
I'll never see it, but I'll know it's there.
In Soviet Russia pie eat you!

Sweet dreams,

Zoya - Dot

Hey all,
Hope you had a good Valentine's Day.
Lucas and I went out to our favourite local restaurant.
Nothing fancy, but we did have dessert. Berry Crumble with ice cream.
And I love me some crumble, so best night ever!

Just a few days before Valentine's I received my Ipsy Glam Bag.
Inside was a Zoya, and to my surprise, it hasn't even been released yet.
This is Dot from the upcoming Awaken Spring 2014 collection.
As soon as I saw it I had to try it out. Polish from the future! O.O

Zoya describes this as a "pink petal cream", and it is the perfect spring pink.
As usual with their creams, the formula was great. Opaque at two coats.

I used Konad - White and stamped with Bundle Monster Plate 317
A day after painting I received an order from Painted Sabotage.
I immediately covered my accent with Happy Hearts and Hooves Day
But I didn't take any photos, it deserves to be more than an accent.

As for Dot, I really like this shade of pink,
I can see using it in lots of nail art designs.
What do you think?
How was your Valentine's Day?

Studs & Gleequins, Oh My!

Hey all,
Happy Wednesday :|
I went on a work field trip today. To deal with thousands upon thousands of postcards.
Organizing, labelling and counting. Lifting a ton of boxes. Jamming my hands into paper.
3 wonderful hours. And save for one ugly chip, my manicure held up!
It was a great workout. Not to mention it seemed to keep my creeping cold at bay.
No complaints here. Just body tired. My mind is active though.
The same song still going through it like it has all day.
Just brewed up a mug of... lemon myrtle tea...
I'm getting comfy...
Dancing with Mylie...
Doing whatever we waaant...
...woah.
Did that just come out? :P
Pardon me!

Anyhoo...
I got some new toys recently. So I tested them out with a few simple (a nice word for boring) manis.
First up... Studs!

All I can say is sexy, sexy, sexy.*clap clap*
Everything I wanted them to be!

OPI - In the Cable Car Pool Lane (2 Coats)
Such a beautiful deep burgundy. The formula has just a hint of jelly to it.

And then.. Gleequins!
I was compelled by the silver holographic diamonds.
In indirect light they look like pieces of mirror, and make me think of the Indian fabrics my mother loves.

And in direct light   *KABOOM*   Holographic fantasy.
I took this photo a day or so after painting, and a few of the gleequins had curled.

Cult Nails - Discipline (3 Coats)
This is such a lovely delicate grey. The shimmer is outstanding, flashing from pink to blue to purple.
It's a bit sheer, but regardless, the formula was splendid.

Maybe it's the gleequins lending this mani a space age feel,
but I couldn't help thinking that Discipline must be what alien flesh looks like.
I kept seeing flashes of Roger from American Dad.
What the hell brain?!

Well I hope you enjoyed my boring manis. :P
I really enjoyed wearing them.
Have a great night and an awesome manicure!

Vancouver Canucks Inspired

Hey all,
What a full half week I've had. No time to blog, but that's a good problem.
It's more important to live life than to talk about it.
Canadian Thanksgiving.
I made two stuffed chicken dinners. Had a sleepover at a friends house.
Bought a new cell phone and obsessed over it all yesterday.
I cut a ton of my hair off. Man was it long. But even so, it's still long.
I did some sale shopping downtown and scored some sweaters.
And I watched a terrible hockey game.We scored on ourself! Wtf!?
Prior to that gaff we had been kicking ass. Three wins in a row. :(
So to celebrate the fact that I'm not a fair weather fan...

My Vancouver Canucks Manicure

Inspired by our team colours and the Johnny Canuck shoulder patch.

It turned out exactly as I had imagined. Simple yet bold (and beautiful!).
Vancouver, where the land meets the sea. If only it could be V for Victory.

I used both of my Smitten Polish holographics for this fantastic gradient.
Out of the Blue & Enchanted Forest.
I used Zoya - Purity as my accent finger base, the rest, Enchanted Forest.
Then sponged on the gradient and quickly removed the striping tape.

I love love love it!! :D What do you think? Canucks enough for you?
It didn't turn out to be good luck, but whatever. It looked great.
As far as I'm concerned, the team let my mani down! Not vice versa.

I also wanted to show you what I wore to my first tea date of the season.
My bitches and I hadn't been for tea all summer long, so it was a great way to ring in fall.
I went with something really simple. I was feeling neutral.

Zoya - Jacqueline with Sally Hansen - Soy Latte accent
Unfortunately I didn't take the pic until a few days after painting. Oh well.
It totally makes me think of Nutella. It went perfectly with my scones ;)

I've got exciting giveaway news!!
Check out her blog for a chance to win two Indigobananas polishes.
I've been drooling all morning. Indigobananas are fantastic.
If I don't win... I'll definitely be placing an order ;)

Have a great day and an awesome manicure!

Testing my MoYou

Hey all,
Happy Saturday!
I wanted to post my hockey mani today, but the game ended terribly. 4-1 San Jose :(
So forget it. They have to win a game before I show off my team spirit.
Thankfully I do have something that I'm really pleased with.

MoYou London stamping plates!

I discovered MoYou a few months ago. And holy crap! So many themes to choose from.
The variety is just amazing! I fell in love with a few plates from the Sailor & Suki Collections.
As soon as they arrived in the mail I had to test them out.

I used Sailor Collection - 05 and just look at that glorious detail! Crisp and fantastic.
I had to try the tentacles first. They're so fricken cool! Everything I wanted them to be :)

My base is OPI - Incognito in Sausalito.
It's hard to tell with the stamping on top, but it's actually a very dark navy blue.
AND! This is only ONE COAT!! Can you believe it?
Mad props to OPI for this one. So vampy, Iove it.

I stamped with my good old A-England - Excalibur (old version)
I cannot wait to try my more of my MoYou images. So far I'm very pleased.
If you're into stamping I highly recommend checking them out.
They just keep releasing awesome collections! So brace yourself ;)

There's another hockey game tonight.
So fingers crossed that they win and I can show of my fantastic tribute soon.
Have a great day and an awesome manicure!

Dipping my Toe into Water Marble

Hey all,
I'm going to be having a bit of a busy week next week, so I thought I'd get another post out today :)
And I have a feeling that if I read or crochet I'll fall asleep, like Lucas on the couch.
So here I am again!

You may notice I don't water marble often. It's been a love hate technique for me.
What started out easily more often became a frustrating mess.
But! All that may change.
I was reading ErinZi's Nails water marble tutorial and learned an ingenious and simple tip!
Do your water marble in a shot glass!
Why have I never thought of this?? Absolutely brilliant!!
I had to test it out right away.

the two fingers on the left are my favourites :)

And I have to say, it worked perfectly! Although, working in such a small space requires patience.
You will notice I dinged a few of my tips on the glass. Even so, I'm very pleased.
The polish nicely filled the circumference of the glass, and didn't dry out quickly, allowing for easy manipulation.

This hand reminds me of sedimentary rock.
If you have trouble with marbles I 100% recommend trying out a shot glass.
It makes me feel like an amazing water marble is once again achievable! :D
You can bet on seeing many more in the future. This was just a test.

I painted a base of Zoya - Purity, then marbled with China Glaze - Solar Power
Sally Hansen - Lickety-Split Lime & Grape Going!
Lucas actually picked out the colours for me, and I think he did a great job.

But right now he's sleeping on the couch.
And the cat is snoring on the chair.
And I'm wide awake.
6:17pm on a Saturday. -_-
Party time. Excellent.

Well for those of you who are awake, here's a clip for you.
From one of my favourite movies, The Big Lebowski.
A co-worker and I watched this a few days ago and laughed our asses off.
John Goodman is so amazing.

"This isn't Nam, this is bowling. There are rules."
Have a great night and an awesome weekend!

Can't Stop the Stamping

Hey all!
I just got back from a trip to my local deli. :)
Walking home with a bag full of meat, I feel so satisfied even though I have yet to eat any.
I love my deli. It's my own personal candy store. Sausages, pies, kabobs, tenerloins, stewing beef!
Nothing beats a good cut of meat. I love meat culture. It's in my blood.
While I was growing up my father worked in a beef plant. He was always bringing home something delicious.
And so he passed on his immense love and mastery of red meat on to me.
Burgers, meatloaf, steaks, stew, roasts. Bring it on!
Am I making you hungry? I'm fricken hungry!

Anyway, enough of my meat mutterings...
On to the mani!

I just had to use my Viva Mexico stamping plate again.

I used Sally Hansen - Soy Latte as my base. It's such a fantastic neutral. I'm surprised by how much I love it.
But then again, it looks like tea, so of course it makes me feel warm and happy.
I would be very interested to see a comparison of Soy Latte and Zoya - Flynn since they look quite similar.
From what I can tell, Soy Latte seems more creamy, whereas Flynn looks nuttier. Now I'm thirsty...

I stamped using Konad Special Polish in White, always a dream to work with.
But it needed a little extra something, so I added dots/ random splotches of Nubar - on the Radar.

I really love this manicure. The little bit of red totally made it.
It makes me think of rustic pottery and adobe houses.
What do you think?

I hope you're having a good week and enjoying the slight chill in the air.
I cannot believe September is almost over. But that's all right with me.
Only one more week till the hockey season begins!
Always got to have something to look forward to :)
Have a great night and an awesome manicure!
