Scofflaw Steps

Hey all,
Of course as soon as the weekend approaches, so do the rain clouds.
Was it me? Did I do it?
Should I not have said "let's go to a lake this weekend"?
Is it because I just received polish I want to swatch in the sun?
How did I anger the weather gods and what can I do to set things right?
If there's a rain dance, there must also be a sun dance.
And if there is I hope it involves lots of headbanging.

During a recent sale I decided to try out some NailVinyls.
I LOVE tape manis. They're the first kind of nail art I tried and excelled at.
But I hate cutting out pieces of tape. It's so finicky and time consuming.
If you're with me on this you'll love NailVinyls!
They have quite an awesome assortment of vinyls for all your tape mani needs.
Lightening bolts, chevrons, classic french tips... something for everyone.
For my first try I decided on a simple getting to know you manicure.

I used a base of A England - Encore Margot then laid down Chevron vinyls
and covered it in Scofflaw - Love Letter From Scofflaw

Love Letter from Scofflaw is a super interesting black polish loaded with silver flecks & red and pink sparkles.
I really love the warmth it has, like the glow of dyeing embers.

And the nail vinyls worked perfectly! Such a breeze to use.
I highly recommend for all tape mani aficionados.
Next time I'm trying out the lightening bolts! So excited.

Alright people, I'm off to the dentist now.
Yep, on a Saturday morning because I'm a masochist.
Have a good one!

Space Ghost

Hey all,
Tomorrow is Model City Polish's 2nd anniversary!
To celebrate Nina will be having an epic sale ^_^
You must check it out!!

Now if that didn't pique your interest, this will.
Model City Polish - Ghost Stories

I stamped with A-England - Excalibur Renaissance
and used Messy Mansion for the first time! Plate MM33.
And I LOVE it! *_*
Silver solar systems and space ships. Ohhh yeahhh.

But Ghost Stories is what's really out of this world.
A dark grey holographic that defies description.

 Are you drooling yet?
I'm so happy with my photos.
I know I did the polish justice, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. (>"<)
If this doesn't make you fall in love with Model City Polish, nothing will.

You know what I'll be doing tomorrow ;)
Loading up on polish and amazing cuticle oil. Fresh cut grass scent must be mine!
Happy shopping ;P

Neely by the Sea

Hey all,
 Happy Humpday.
Tonight I have one of my favourite polishes
Zoya - Neely
The cremes of last years Lovely collection are still tops with me. Big time.

Stamped with AEngland - Excalibur Renaissance
Using MoYou London Sailor Plate 05
Belugas on my accent and beachy awesomness on the rest.

I love this so much! The little starfish and shells are too cute.
The belugas are kind of bizarre. They look like messed up budgies to me.
Still cute though, so whatev.

Which old collections are still setting your heart on fire?

Have a great night!
I'm off to do some crochet and celebrate Montréal's win over Boston. ^_^

T.N.T. I'm Dynamite

Hey all,
Hope you had an awesome Christmas.
Mine has been both delicious and exhausting.
I feel like I haven't stopped moving for two weeks.
At least I have managed to be minimally creative.
I'm working on a little something-something you'll find out all about in January.
So get excited.

Until then,  Here's my Christmas Day Manicure.
A Simply Smitten Splatter

For months I knew I had to use Smitten Polish - Enchanted Forest & Zelda's Fall-y
Holographic holiday perfection, like tinsel and ornaments twinkling by the fire.
I hadn't settled on the splatter until the night I painted.
My heart said I had to, especially since I've never used this technique with holos before.

Zoya - Jacqueline made the perfect eggnog background.
In fact this polish is the perfect background for anything, I love it so!

--

I Love Nail Polish Gradient

Absolute Zero (deep indigo) & Pt78 (silver)
Looks much more subtle in the photos. Beautiful polishes and so amazing to work with.

--

Darling Diva - T.N.T.

I was unable to properly capture this one :(
Deep brown jelly with gold/green/orange shifting shimmer.
Kind of meh in the bottle, but a whole other story on the nail!(^v^)
And how could you not love a polish inspired by AC/DC?
Check out the video if you want to see some amazing pants and... no shirts allowed.

Have a great weekend! I'm getting my lounge on.

the weather outside is frightful

We have reached the darkest of days. And I yearn to hibernate.
Once it gets close to nine in the evening I'm much too out of it to do anything.
Crochet puts me to sleep. German? Forget about it.
Feels like lost time.
But I always try to look on the bright side.
In a week it will all be in reversal.
This moment is fleeting.

I finally tried out my first half moon manicure after being inspired by the mercurial magpie.
One word of caution though, don't use the plastic binder reinforcements, pain in the ass!
That's what I get for pinching work supplies (;一_一)
It all worked out so wonderfully in the end though.
Essie - Gold as Gold & OPI - Incognito in Sausalito

----

This mani I actually named - Snowfall at Twilight

Nail Pattern Boldness - Texas Tea is AMAZING!!
This is only TWO coats of a glitter sensation. There is zero pigment in the base. Mind blown.
The colours remind me of Christmas lights, and the iridescent blue flakies lend the perfect glow.
Completely and utterly in love.

I stamped with Bundle Monster & A-England Excalibur.
I think snowflakes have to be my favourite Christmasy theme.
I'm not a big Christmas person. Every year that goes by it feels less and less special.
What I wouldn't do just to be able to sleep until the new year.

Ipsy December Glam Bag

I recently signed up with Ipsy , a monthly make up subscription box.
For $15 ($10 in the US) you get 5 items picked out for you in a cute little bag.
I didn't exactly know what to expect, but I'm impressed.
Now I'm not a beauty blogger, nor do I aspire to be, so I just have a couple photos and that's it.

In my bag...

Nicka K New York - Ripe Apple
Pop Bauty - Brighten Up Your Life (ha!) Eye Shadow Trio in Naturally Bare
Be A Bombshell - The One Stick in Girl Crush
Nxy - Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in B52
Demeter - Perfume Oil Roll On in Snow

Well I love the eye shadow that will brighten up my life.
Still waiting for that, but the copper tones look great with my green eyes. Score!
The One Stick I will NEVER use on my lips, since it's frosted bright pink.
However it's a very natural blush on my fair face. Score!
The lipstick is nice and subtle, creamy understated sophistication. Hat trick!
The roll on oil in Snow wasn't my thing at first. But after wearing it for a few hours it really grew on me.
The oil is such a wonderful, mellow scent experience, I like it a lot.
In fact... I've already ordered another one of their scents. Major score!

And the Nicka K Nail Polish? (Have you ever heard of them before??)
Well here's a swatch for you.

Perfect shade for the holidays!
I did another snowy-ish stamp job with it and some Northern Lights Topcoat.

I must have tempted fate because a day after painting this it snowed.
And it doesn't do that all the time here. I'm loving it, it's so beautiful.
But soon enough it will all be slushy disgusting. Yay. (._.)
Puddle jumping my way to my Saturday overtime.
What fun.

Testing my MoYou

Hey all,
Happy Saturday!
I wanted to post my hockey mani today, but the game ended terribly. 4-1 San Jose :(
So forget it. They have to win a game before I show off my team spirit.
Thankfully I do have something that I'm really pleased with.

MoYou London stamping plates!

I discovered MoYou a few months ago. And holy crap! So many themes to choose from.
The variety is just amazing! I fell in love with a few plates from the Sailor & Suki Collections.
As soon as they arrived in the mail I had to test them out.

I used Sailor Collection - 05 and just look at that glorious detail! Crisp and fantastic.
I had to try the tentacles first. They're so fricken cool! Everything I wanted them to be :)

My base is OPI - Incognito in Sausalito.
It's hard to tell with the stamping on top, but it's actually a very dark navy blue.
AND! This is only ONE COAT!! Can you believe it?
Mad props to OPI for this one. So vampy, Iove it.

I stamped with my good old A-England - Excalibur (old version)
I cannot wait to try my more of my MoYou images. So far I'm very pleased.
If you're into stamping I highly recommend checking them out.
They just keep releasing awesome collections! So brace yourself ;)

There's another hockey game tonight.
So fingers crossed that they win and I can show of my fantastic tribute soon.
Have a great day and an awesome manicure!

Stamp those Grapes

Hey all,
It's a beautiful Sunday!
I just got back from a quick dim sum breakfast.
There's nothing like a bunch of fried shrimp to start your day.
Every single time I stuff myself and end up feeling so tired and lazy.
So before I settle into my dim sum coma, I have a manicure to share with you.

I wore this for a day and then my heart said "make it matte!"

I love both versions, but I think the matte makes it extra special.
It really brings out the duochrome in the purple, and is luxuriously velvety.
What do you think?

Sally Hansen - Grape Going! is so interesting. Loaded with blue shimmer it flashes between warm and cold purple.
I love how interesting it is. Great formula. Minimal streakage.
I'm so glad Dagadelic was able to grab this for me. I can't wait to stamp with it.

I stamped with A-England - Excalibur. I left it out of the bottle shot since I use it all the time.

One week until I go away on holiday.
Needless to say, it's all I can think about.
Until then I'm going to disappear into a book and some crochet.
Have a great day and an awesome manicure!

When the Sea meets the Rocks

Hey all,
I hope you're having a good week.
I had a great day yesterday. Fun in the sun with family and food.
Lucas and I hosted an awesome birthday for Dagadelic.
But I'll let her tell you about it.

Here's a little something I wore earlier in the week.

I was dying to try out Pretty & Polished - Sea Spray
Such a gorgeously deep and sparkling blue <3
But I was also going to a rock show, so I had to pair it with Orly - Rock Solid

Such fantastic glistening joy! All I can do is drool.
Sad to hear Sea Spray is discontinued. I'm glad I was able to snag it.
I just love that depth! And the formula was fantastic.

Rock Solid really helped bling out my mani. I love the holographic particles.
A bit of a pain to remove, but nothing too terrible.

Well that's all for now. I need to nurse my sun burn :P
Have a great weekend and an awesome mani!

Metallic Accents

Hey all,
How was your week?
Since my last post I've been grooving on accent fingers.
Specifically beautiful metallics accenting stunning cremes.
I guess I've been a bit lazy art wise, but I feel the colours speak for themselves.
I painted two accent manicures this week (I told you I was grooving!) so you get a 2 for 1 :)

I wore my Beachy Stripe mani for two days before I was hankering for something royal.
I wear this combo so infrequently. In fact, it may even be my first gold/purple mani. :S

I used Nubar - Pyramid Purple as my base.
It is a perfect grape flavoured purple, though the photos come out a tinge more brown than real life.
It is deep, but still a very bright and vibrant shade.
I would recommend to anyone looking to expand their purple collection. ( ;) D)

The gradient was done with Zoya - Solange
It is the perfect crowning glory for this royal manicure.
I applied two coats of Poshe topcoat to really make it dazzle.
It makes me think of a sunset (or maybe a sunrise, but I haven't seen one of those in years :P)

After that fantastic manicure I needed to cleanse my palette with teal. (I love teal. I'm an absolute teal freak.)
And some silver! Why not? A complete opposite flavour!

I decided to use my Cheeky Viva Mexico stamping plate for Aztec-y goodness.
It NEVER disappoints. drooling...
I'm in love with this. So crisp and bold!
What do you think?

I used Topshop - Jewel in the Crown as my base.
The formula is superb! No streaks. And when it dries, the finish is like stained glass.
Oh, and the colour! Fantastically rich, this is aptly named.

I stamped with A-England - Excalibur - the old version
I'm really sad there's a new version. I think this is the perfect silver, hands down.
And stamping with it is an absolute dream! Sigh...
I'll be on the lookout for this baby. I need to stock up.

I'll be mixing it up soon. Take an accent mani break for a bit.
But when the mood strikes, I say go with it.
I don't know about you, but every time I decide to paint my nails I usually have an immediate impulse about what I should do.
And I find that if I don't listen to that voice, I end up completely unsatisfied with my nails, even if they're amazing.
Everything I do comes from the gut. I don't plan or strategize, I just feel.
And then puke it out.

I hope everyone has a fun weekend.
I have my day planned tomorrow, but there will be more on that next post :)
And another session of On The Turntable coming up, I promise!

Have a great day and an awesome manicure!

Simple Tape Up

Hey all,
How's your weekend going?
This morning I woke up wanting to create a bold tape manicure.
So after my first two cups of tea... and a long time playing Candy Crush... I got to it!

I used Nubar - My New Obsession & A-England - Excalibur
I absolutely love the combination of these polishes. So flashy.
Then again, silver is awesome with everything.

I really like this manicure. What do you think?
I love bold crisp geometric lines.
There's something almost art deco about it.

I watched a documentary the other night called Crazy Love. It was so interesting and bizarre.
It's hard to stop thinking about it.
If you're into docs, I enthusiastically recommend it.
It will definitely intrigue you.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Have a great day and an awesome manicure.

London Lightning

Hey all,
Happy weekend! Any plans? I'm going to my favourite tea place today! Finally. I've been putting it off. But I'm almost out of my current favourite, Earl Grey Pu'er, and it's freakin me out. What's your beverage addiction of the moment?

I have been a bad blogger. I was blinded by my rage last post and forgot to thank Nail Polish Canada for including me in their latest instalment of Favourite Swatches of the Week. My Stamp On It manicure was featured alongside some very cool manicures, so check them out! :)

As an ode to their pick I decided to do another stamp on pixiedust.

I used Zoya - London & A-England - Excalibur
I really love this combo. It's both flashy and subtle.
And I must mention again how amazing A-England is for stamping. Such density and definition!

I'm still really enjoying the textured matter glitter of PixieDust and can't wait for the summer collection.
What do you think of this look? Would you try it?

Earlier this week D, from Dagadelic, and I spent an evening making nail polish jewellery. It was so much fun. She gave me ideas I hadn't even considered. And the results were amazing. I'll take some pics and post them soon. I'm not actually finished putting together everything we made yet :P We have received some major compliments though, very cool. I think we may have an major addiction looming. :D
And sometime in between jewellery art I need to find the time for nail art. (Expect a gradient.) And reading. And crochet.
I guess it's true. I do love to keep myself busy. Like they say, idle hands are the devils playthings ;) How are you keeping your hands busy?

Have a great weekend and an awesome manicure!

Striped Gradient Accents

Hey all,
How was your weekend? I've had a good one. Donuts with the girls on Friday was awesome. Two big cups of tea, fries and gravy, a pork torta, followed by 3 donuts (that I scarfed in one sitting in the of privacy of my home). It was all so delicious that I'm already planning my next visit. :)

I just realized this last week was the two year anniversary of my work relocating to my side of town. It was quite an awesome thing for me because it allowed me to start walking to work. I love my walk. It's just far enough to be good exercise but not so far that I'm exhausted. Being out in the elements everyday has made me feel more connected with nature. I actually know what temperatures feel like now. That statement may sound dumb, but when I see it's 11° I know exactly what to wear that will keep me comfortable. (I've spent a lot of my life being over or under dressed, it gets to be a real pain.) Then of course there's the obvious benefit of exercise. I walk 4.6km a day (2.85 miles for my American friends). Over the  last 2 years I've walked around 2254km or 1400 miles. I think that's pretty cool.

On to the nails! Here's the manicure I had for most of last week.

A dark green shimmer with two gradient and striped accent nails.

I was originally going to cover most of the dark green. I've used it only once before and wasn't very keen on it.
But this time, as I waited for it to dry, it really grew on me. There's a lot of depth and shimmer to it, with just a touch of blue.
I felt bad for my previous disdain and decided it was time for it to shine.

I think the silver and khaki gradient nicely highlights the shimmer.
Not a very spring time colour combo. I think it has a military vibe going.
What do you think?

I used China Glaze - Gussied Up Green as my base and placed two pieces of striping tape
then sponged a gradient with A-England - Excalibur & OPI - Uh-Oh Roll down the Window

Muse-ic
Last night I went out to a metal show. Pretty rare for me, I'm more of a punk girl. But it was fun none the less. It was an album release gig for Magnus Rising. We're friends of a friend so we were there to show support and get drunk in the process.
If you like metal, check them out.
As I watched them play I kept thinking, jesus the bass player has the most amazing mane of curls.
I wonder what conditioner he uses. I wanted to scream "You're hair is beautiful!!!" Cause that's metal, right?

Have a great night and an awesome manicure!
