A Selection of Aliquid Lacquer The Silmarillion Collection and Giveaway

*polish provided for review*

Hey all,
This is the first time I've ever written that little disclaimer up there! (✿◠‿◠)
When Alison of Aliquid Lacquer contacted me about reviewing some of her latest collection I jumped at the chance.
I've come to expect intriguing combinations and flawless formulas from this brand.
The Silmarillion Collection does not disappoint.
Based off of one of Alison's favourite books : J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion.
I may not be a Tolkien person, but I love art influencing other art, especially literature.
Each polish is inspired by different scenes in the book.
My post is super long as is, so I decided not to include the passages.
If you wish to read them check out Aliquid's blog.

So as not to be repetitive,
I used one coat of Seche Vite base and top coat for each swatch.

Devouring Wave

Devouring Wave is a deep blue jelly full of multiple sized hexes and shreds.
Red, blue, silver, green, purple, there may even be more colours.
But the array doesn't end there.
The glitter also varies between metallic, holographic AND iridescent.
(@_@;)  Fantastic.

I used three thin coats for optimum oomph. The third coat really gave it depth and shine.
The formula was easy to work with. Not too thick or thin.
I had no trouble getting glitter and they dispersed themselves quite nicely.

I think the name is perfect for this one. It makes me think if glittery flotsam and jetsam in the ocean deep.
I'm a fool for blue and jellies with glitter. So this is a hit with me. I've been devoured.

Dragonspell

Dragonspell is an amber jelly with plenty of green shimmer and gold flakes.

I used three thin coats, if I had steadier hands two coats would have been fine.
The formula was very nice. Like butter, which is standard for Aliquid.
The gold flakes really pop in any type of lighting and lends a tortoiseshell look to the polish.

The addition of green shimmer makes this spell magical. It really glows in direct light.
This is such a unique polish. Mystifying is the best word I can think of.

Hidden City

Hidden City is a deep green holo with copper, bronze and gold flecks.

I used two coats for polished perfection. Great formula. Super smooth.
In low lighting the flakes come out to play, resulting in a very interesting metallic look.

But in direct light this one is a bit of a show off. Look at that holographic splendour!
Green with rainbows? Everything I've ever wanted (+_+)

Shores of Paradise

Shores of Paradise is a slightly sandy tinted base full of brown, gold and white microglitter.
And a smattering of red, aqua, blue, garnet and clear iridescent hexes make this suuuper interesting.

I used three thin coats and then couldn't stop staring.
Again, the formula totally rocked and was super easy to work with.
I'm sure this would also look amazing layered over another polish, and will try that one day.

It was love at first slight with this one. So incredibly cool!
The coloured glitters are the most awesomely offbeat mix, as I've come to expect from this brand.
Again, I've never seen anything like it.

Just based on the four polishes I have, I'm really impressed with this collection.
Each polish seems very well thought out. Very lovingly crafted.
I think it's a stand out unique mix. There's something for everyone.

Along with swatches I wanted to have some fun with the polish.
So I have two nail art looks for you.

Stamped with Konad - Black using Pueen Plate 56
I think the stars are a perfect match to Shores of Paradise. Makes me think of sand castles.

What I'm wearing at the moment is a Dragonspell / Hidden City half moon.
I watched the trailer for the new Ninja Turtles film before I painted, so that may have influenced me.
(Movie looks like shit if you ask me. I loved TMNT growing up.
Why'd you mess with the story Bay??!! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ )
As for the nails, they're weird, for sure, but I like it. The green shimmer with the green holo.
It's earthy but also not of this world.
What do you think if this half moon combo?

Ginger Rose Lipbalm

Aliquid also makes wonderful lip balms and she was kind enough to send the new Ginger Rose scent.
I have been a Burt's Bees girl for many years now. But I swear to you that Aliquid's are even nicer.
They're less waxy and in my opinion feel lighter and creamier.
Ginger Rose is a lovely scent, exotic and mysterious. Gently floral with a little hint of zing.
Reminds me of Chinatown in the spring.

Hot for Holo

Hey all,
It's officially spring, and the sun is shining.
I even saw the hint of blossoms on the trees!
As my Dad says "It smells like baseball season!"
I always get really excited. The kid in me still looking forward to summer break.
Despite the fact that it's been 10 years since I've experienced such a thing.

So I decided to flex my jeebjeeb art muscles since they've been atrophying lately.
Holo polish and two of my favourite techniques. A recipe for salivation.

For the gradient I used two I Love Nail Polish shades.
Music Box, an enchanting sea foam green & PT 78, an awesome gunmetal grey.
That was pretty spectacular, but I needed more holo goodness!

So I splattered with Color Club - Miss Bliss
The hot pink is the perfect contrast! Complete and utter eye candy.
Manicure complete! I am sufficiently satisfied. *.*

I'm going to spend the rest of this beautiful afternoon crafting a world class chilli. ^.^
Slow cook it to perfection. And then settle in with a 5pm hockey game.
What are you up to today?
Whatever it is, have a good one!

ILNP - Undenied

Hey all,
I just finished watching a hockey game and feel like passing out ~_~
So tonight's another lazy late night manicure
(It's not really that late on the west coast, but whatever.)

ILNP - Undenied

Undenied is an "ultra chrome" (sounds so futuristicly fantastic)
that shifts from violet and red to gold.
Photos do not do it justice.

The ultra part is definitely spot on. Metallic to the extreme.
And easy to work with. Just be gentle with your brush and it does the rest.
This is two coats.

Are you an ultra chrome fan?
I'm a bit late to the party. I just could not deny their beauty any longer.

 The spring equinox is tomorrow!
I can't wait for all the flowers and cherry blossoms to come out.
Nothing's more inspiring than the rebirth of nature.
Have a great night!

Model City Polish - Charmed

 Hey all,
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Another year of not being Irish but loving the colour green.
And this year I have a very special green to share with you.
Model City Polish - Charmed

Charmed is a lime green jelly base loaded with
two sizes of green holographic hexes, gold holo micro glitter and gold flecks.
I stamped a celtic-ish accent finger with Essie - Good As Gold and Pueen Plate 65

Nina from Model City Polish made Charmed for St Patrick's Day.
Taking inspiration from pots of gold and leprechauns.
You can see her beautiful swatch here.
When I showed Lucas he said "If I owned nail polish this would be in my collection"
Is that not the most glowing recommendation?

I am so taken with this blend. Every element seems so well thought out, so complimentary.
And, in my opinion, the addition of gold fleck really sets this polish apart. It amps it up.
Making this truly a thing of myths creation. A fairy tale in a bottle.

So, no green beer for me tonight.
Just a normal Monday.
What about you? Irishing it up?
If so, have one for me!

The Lady Varnishes - Harper Doo

Hey all,
Really ugly rainy day on the west coast.
Thankfully I got out for a bit.
Chinese buns and two knocked over cups of tea at a friends house.
A really quiet and creepy knock on the door that turned out to be Jehovas.
Doesn't sound like much, but I was hysterical a few times.

Today I'm wearing The Lady Varnishes - Harper Doo

Harper Doo is a black base full of white and green flecks, and purple and brown micro glitter.
This polish truly glows from within, I never expected so much magical shimmer.
I'm thinking midnight in the enchanted forest.

And since I was so taken with the green flecks I decided to roll with the nature theme.
I used  Pueen Plate 55 & Konad - Green
To keep the focus on Harper Doo I was a bit random with my stamp placement.
I really like how it turned out.

Look at those flecks and shimmers? Isn't it delish?
This polish is inspired by The Lady Varnishes' dog, Harper.
I bought this a few months back when the little cutie hurt herself.
All purchases went towards vet bills. Poor little fur baby.
I'm happy to say I saw an update just today and Harper is all healed up ^_^

Have a great weekend!

branding all the young girls with triple sixes

Hey all,
Tonight I have another polish combo I couldn't get out of my head.
It kept nagging at me. Like getting a song stuck in your head.
So let's get it out of my system.

Zoya - Rue topped with Scofflaw - Happy Little Tree
Mattified with Essie - Matte About You

Initially I wasn't a fan of Happy Little Tree. I'm not a huge glitter topper person.
But the more swatches I saw, the more it grew on me.
The pale yellow, grey, gunmetal, aqua and pale green glitter combo feels so vintage to me.
Like the colours cars from the 50's & 60's. Chrome with pale yellow? I love that shit.

And for some reason I had to put matte topcoat on right away. Which is unusual for me.
But this combination screamed matte or nothing!

Rue is such a fantastic neutral pink. Understated and classic.
What do you think of this combo?

And now for something completely different.
This is the first time I've done anything like this.
But it has been percolating for many years.
Last night I recorded my alter ego lip-synching to a song.
Drag kinging it up.
When Lucas asked to see, I was absolutely terrified.
To have such a strong reaction, to do something I've wanted to do for so long, is pretty screwed up.
There's something about drawing on eyebrows and a moustache that makes me feel like I' m totally naked.
So I'm going to make myself even more uncomfortable and share this with all of you.
I'd like you to meet Lux Vortex.
Where the angry punk and the absurdist artist in me combine.

)

Ok, well I'm going to hyperventilate a bit and wonder why did I post that?!
The Sagittarius loves playing the clown and does it quite well,
but the Scorpio unnerves itself with over thinking.
All that matters is that some of you think this is even remotely funny.
Oh gosh... why did I do this...

Smitten Polish - Klaatu Barada Nikto

Hey all,
I have a late night lazy manicure for you.
Featuring
Smitten Polish - Klaatu Barada Nikto

KBN is a cobalt base full of tiny holographic glitters of multiple colours.
Despite the rich darkness of the base, the glitters shine brightly.
Red, blue, green, pink, gold. A disco laser show.
I couldn't bare to do any art over top.

I wish my pictures could capture how stunning this is in real life.
It's so loaded with glitter that one coat of Seche Vite dried a bit bumpy.
I didn't mind at all, but would recommend two coats of topcoat for a super glassy smooth finish.

I really love this polish.
I don't have anything else quite like it.
Oh! And I must mention, the name, Klaatu Barara Nikto,
comes from the movie Army of Darkness, of which I'm a HUGE fan.
If you haven't seen it, check it out, one of the best horror comedies ever!

Have a great night!

How to Attract Attention

 Hey all,
I've got something super cool to share with you today.
Indigo Bananas Glow in the Dark Topcoat! :O
What what you say?
You heard me.
Glow in the fricken dark.
When I first found out about it I told Lucas.
He thought it was pretty cool.
Then a few days later he asked me if I ordered it yet...
And a few weeks after that, I was talking about a polish shipment,
and he said "glow in the dark polish???", his face lit up with expectation...
Umm... no?
Obviously someone really wanted this glow in the dark topcoat.
I waited a while longer to torture him and then eventually grabbed a bottle of Teal.
And yes, it comes it 3 different colours!
Green, Blue or Teal.
How cool is that?
Well... see for yourself...
(This is two coats.)

Pretty damn cool huh? I'm still shocked and awed.
And I noticed something.
It wasn't just Lucas. Men LOVED the glow in the dark.
I would tell them it glowed in the dark and their face would totally change.
Their eyes would light up, they'd drop everything, completely transfixed.
You wouldn't believe it. Perhaps it brings out the kid in them.
All the single ladies!!
Word of advice.
If you want to attract men you need glow in the dark topcoat!
Seriously, it will get way more attention than that low cut shirt or short skirt.
Repeat. Man magnet. Moths to a flame.

By day you can see the beautiful Nubar - My New Obsession (I am obsessed!!)
stamped with Konad - Black using  MoYou Suki Plate 10
This totally makes me think of the old Batman tv series from the 60's.

So amazingly cool! Don't you think?
What would you do with glow in the dark topcoats?
Playing around with tape would be a lot of fun.
But that's another manicure for another time. :)

day is breaking in my soul

Hey all,
I'm having a bit of a late night.
It's just past midnight and I'm still awake! Wow!
I used to be a night owl but in the last few years I've morphed into a morning person.
The only time I can stay awake late is at my friend's house because we drink tea non stop.
My house just puts me to sleep. I've become too set in my up at 7 down at 11 routine.
Well tonight I'm going to act like a teenager. :)
Might as well get something useful done.
So here's a late night manicure for you.

Aliquid Lacquer - Gargoyle
stamped with A-England - Her Rose Adagio using MoYou Fairytale Plate 06

Gargoyle is a grey creme full of shimmering fecks of gunmetal, gold and copper.
It really is quit special. The flecks add such depth and visual interest. A sleeper hit!
Unfortunately my holo stamping heavily distracts from it's natural beauty.
I urge you to check out The Mercurial Magpie's swatch to see it in all it's glory.

I really like the grey and holo combo. It feels kind of whimsical to me.
Not dainty, but gentle. Like a bit of sunlight breaking through clouds.
Like how this song makes me feel...

Have. great night, or morning!
