Dollish Polish - The Koopa King

Hey all,
Happy Monday.
My back is so red and sensitive, and I'm not quite sure if I ever properly woke up today.
I passed out on the couch at 6:30 last night :S Damn sun hangover.
If only it didn't feel so good to bask in it.
My soul is happy. My skin is not.

While I was slow cooking my flesh, this was my fresh mani.
We were celebrating Dagadelic's birthday, so I had to sparkle!
Time for my most unique glitter!
(gifted to me by the wonderful and fabulous Dagadelic by the way)

Dollish Polish - The Koopa King over Zoya - Reagan with a matte topcoat
The Koop King is quite an interesting combination.
Yellow, green, pink, holographic, white and black.Varying sized hexes, squares, diamonds and bars.
In the bottle all I can think is "peas and corn" Well... lots of corn.

It's such a chaotic glitter. I like how weird it is. I even like the bars, and usually I hate those things.
I can't help staring at it. There's just so much going on. I'm constantly perplexed by it's strangeness.
But in a good way. I can't decide if it's beautiful or ugly, and I like that.

It's got personality, that's for sure. So I'm glad I've got it.
What do you think? Grooving on the colours and shapes? Or not?
The holographic diamonds are pretty spectacular in real life.
I think they're my fav, I'm a sucker for holographic :D

Uh oh. I feel the comforting arms of sleep embracing me.
Hopefully when I wake up I'll be a little less pink and a little more brown.
Or a lot more peely :S Only time will tell...
Have a great night and an awesome manicure!

When the Sea meets the Rocks

Hey all,
I hope you're having a good week.
I had a great day yesterday. Fun in the sun with family and food.
Lucas and I hosted an awesome birthday for Dagadelic.
But I'll let her tell you about it.

Here's a little something I wore earlier in the week.

I was dying to try out Pretty & Polished - Sea Spray
Such a gorgeously deep and sparkling blue <3
But I was also going to a rock show, so I had to pair it with Orly - Rock Solid

Such fantastic glistening joy! All I can do is drool.
Sad to hear Sea Spray is discontinued. I'm glad I was able to snag it.
I just love that depth! And the formula was fantastic.

Rock Solid really helped bling out my mani. I love the holographic particles.
A bit of a pain to remove, but nothing too terrible.

Well that's all for now. I need to nurse my sun burn :P
Have a great weekend and an awesome mani!

Dagadelic's Poison Dart Frog Mani

Hey all!
I'm super excited to be celebrating Dagadelic's birthday tomorrow!
I've got a lot of good times planned for her.
Ok, well most of the good times revolve around food.
But you can't beat home cooking!
As a little pre-birthday ode to D I tried my hand at her Poison Dart Frog Tutorial.

I really like how they turned out. Toad-ally awesome!
It was super fun to create. And I recommend the tutorial to anyone.
Poison Dart Frog is THE latest animal print.
Get with the times!

I loved D's original in blue, but I just had to try it in green.
And it's perfect, though I think it would work in any colour.
I'm especially interested to see it in orange/yellow or purple :)
What do you think?

I used Nubar - Into the Wild as my base.
Sponged on Zoya - Neely and just a hint of China Glaze - Unpredictable to give it that touch of shimmer
Then I dotted on China Glaze - Gussied Up Green

I'm waiting for my fresh birthday mani to dry before I pass out.
I've got presents wrapped and chicken wings ready for the picnic.
It's going to be a good day tomorrow.

Have a great night and an awesome mani!

piCture pOlish - Citrus

Hey all,
Two posts in one day?! What in the heck?
I just really want to catch up. :)
And this polish speaks for itself!

I've been having a fantasy love affair lately.
After countlessly drooling over this Pointless Cafe swatch I could no longer stand it!
piCture pOlish - Citrus had to be mine!

It is the perfect orange!
Very opaque and incredibly saturated,
piCture pOlish does not disappoint with this creme formula.
Lucas always comments on the lack of orange in my collection.
It's not for lack of trying, but generally I find them to be too sheer, streaky and watery.
Not this time. Complete satisfaction!

I was feeling the citrus vibe and used stripping tape to create an accent with Sally Hansen - Lickety Split Lime
These colours are so perfect together. I see a gradient in their future :)

I'm so excited for Wednesday :D
One of my favourite bands is coming to town!
The Heartless Bastards!
They are so awesome live, I cannot wait.
And I get to share it with some of my favourite people.
They've never seen them before :) Oh are they in for a treat.
Here's a treat for all of you. Skin and Bone, my favourite song off their newest album.
Enjoy!

Have a great night!

Pretty & Polished - April Showers

Hey all,
Happy Sunday morning.
I've been in a get up and go mood.
Which means cleaning the house for 20 minutes while I make my first cup of tea.
Don't ask me why, sometimes I'm so full of energy and drive right after I've woken up, it's scary.
Seems I do best when I'm running on empty, denying myself the gratification of a warm beverage.
I'll do anything for that first cup. But usually it's dishes and general tidying.
Then I can relax, surf the web, crochet. I just have to work for it.
Then I spend the rest of my day completely undisciplined. :P

Last week I received a couple beauties from Pretty & Polished.
I was so excited about April Showers, I had to put it on immediately.

April Showers is a colour changing polish. When warm the base is white. When cold, blue.
I think it's so cute white. It makes me think of blueberry yogurt or something.

It's full of shiny blue circles, matte blue hexes in 3 sizes and very small white iridescent hexes.

The best part is how each base colour hides or brings out a certain glitter.

When blue, the small white hexes really shimmer, and the matte hexes recede.
I love it like this too. Like a shimmery robin's egg.
However, I didn't get to enjoy it like this very often, due to summer weather.
But I did have a lot more fun washing my hands :)

On this hand I got two of the largest size of hex. I didn't even know they were in there!
I absolutely adore this polish. Extremely fun and cute!
What do you think?

Kit-Kat has been enjoying the warm weather.
And I hope you have too.

Time to get my crochet on!
I'm getting close to the end of a project!
I can almost taste it.
Mmmm...acrylic.

Have a great Sunday and an awesome manicure!

Show & Shine

Hey all,
How was your week? And how's your weekend going?
I've been neglecting my blog again -_- I'm a week behind! dammit.
I'm most happiest when my posts are current. Once it starts to pile up it feels like work.
But then again, posting as often as I change my manicure also feels like a chore.
I'll have to decide on some happy medium.

Last weekend Dagadelic and I ventured out to a fabulous Show & Shine vintage car show.
So many amazing cars and such great art inspiration!
This show has a special place in my heart because it marks the one year anniversary of my decent into nail art madness.
Last year I came back from a week of vacation determined to start mixing up my plain vanilla manicures.
The first thing I did was try my hand at a gradient. And the rest is history...

I wanted to celebrate that manicure, with a little something extra on top. :)

As soon as I started the splatter I fell in love. It all came together so perfectly.
It is amped up colour fantastic. Over the top summer.

The whole time I was creating this, all I could think was
"this looks like my childhood!"
Does anyone else born in and around 1986 agree?

I love all the really fine splatter I was able to create.
I didn't want to overpower the gradient.

I used Nubar - Resort Yellow & Essie - Off the Shoulder to create the gradient
And splattered with Nubar - Pyramid Purple & Into the Wild

On the Turntable...

Since the B-52's concert I've been listening to a lot of... B-52's. (They were that good.)
And it turns out I do have one of their albums on vinyl.

Bouncing off the Satellites
I've listened to it twice. :S Truth is, it's my least favourite album.
The others are great. I urge you to check out Wild Planet or Whammy, both lesser known goldmines.
Turns out, shortly after finishing this album Ricky Wilson (guitarist and brother to Cindy) died of health complications due to AIDS.
Pretty tragic stuff for such a happy band.
This is Cindy's solo song Girl from Ipanema Goes to Greenland
Makes me sad seeing only 4 of them bopping around in the music video.
Enjoy.

Took my brother out to see Grown Ups 2 today.
It was a lot of fun. We laughed like crazy, I definitely recommend it.
Then we walked all the way home, it was such a gorgeous day.
Tomorrow I hope to lay low. Stay home and work on art and secret birthday plans. Muahaha!
What are you up to?

Have a great weekend and an awesome manicure!

Metallic Accents

Hey all,
How was your week?
Since my last post I've been grooving on accent fingers.
Specifically beautiful metallics accenting stunning cremes.
I guess I've been a bit lazy art wise, but I feel the colours speak for themselves.
I painted two accent manicures this week (I told you I was grooving!) so you get a 2 for 1 :)

I wore my Beachy Stripe mani for two days before I was hankering for something royal.
I wear this combo so infrequently. In fact, it may even be my first gold/purple mani. :S

I used Nubar - Pyramid Purple as my base.
It is a perfect grape flavoured purple, though the photos come out a tinge more brown than real life.
It is deep, but still a very bright and vibrant shade.
I would recommend to anyone looking to expand their purple collection. ( ;) D)

The gradient was done with Zoya - Solange
It is the perfect crowning glory for this royal manicure.
I applied two coats of Poshe topcoat to really make it dazzle.
It makes me think of a sunset (or maybe a sunrise, but I haven't seen one of those in years :P)

After that fantastic manicure I needed to cleanse my palette with teal. (I love teal. I'm an absolute teal freak.)
And some silver! Why not? A complete opposite flavour!

I decided to use my Cheeky Viva Mexico stamping plate for Aztec-y goodness.
It NEVER disappoints. drooling...
I'm in love with this. So crisp and bold!
What do you think?

I used Topshop - Jewel in the Crown as my base.
The formula is superb! No streaks. And when it dries, the finish is like stained glass.
Oh, and the colour! Fantastically rich, this is aptly named.

I stamped with A-England - Excalibur - the old version
I'm really sad there's a new version. I think this is the perfect silver, hands down.
And stamping with it is an absolute dream! Sigh...
I'll be on the lookout for this baby. I need to stock up.

I'll be mixing it up soon. Take an accent mani break for a bit.
But when the mood strikes, I say go with it.
I don't know about you, but every time I decide to paint my nails I usually have an immediate impulse about what I should do.
And I find that if I don't listen to that voice, I end up completely unsatisfied with my nails, even if they're amazing.
Everything I do comes from the gut. I don't plan or strategize, I just feel.
And then puke it out.

I hope everyone has a fun weekend.
I have my day planned tomorrow, but there will be more on that next post :)
And another session of On The Turntable coming up, I promise!

Have a great day and an awesome manicure!

Beachy Stripe

Hey all,
I was at my drugstore yesterday when I couldn't help checking out the polish on the clearance rack.
Usually I'm really good about this, I almost never buy polish in real life.
But there they were, calling to me. So I had to adopt two.
Salley Hansen - Soy Latte & Quo by Orly - Beyond the Sea

Unfortunately the bottle shot doesn't show off the beautiful teal simmer in Beyond the Sea.
It has such crazy depth and mysterious flash. Totally oceanic.
I think I must have been drawn to Soy Latte because it makes the perfect sandy counterpart.

As soon as I left the store I felt like I had to go home right away and combine the two!
I was already planning some vertical stripes, but when I saw this manicure by Pointless Cafe I knew it was a must.
We even have the same colour combo! Just one of those kind of days, tuned into the collective unconscious.

Look at that beautiful shimmer!

I don't usually go in for shimmer. But when it looks this much like beautiful sparkling water, all defences down.
This is the best impulse buy/manicure in a long time :) When the mood hits,do it!
I really like these colours and am very excited with their possibilities.
What do you think?

I don't know about soy lattes, but I will say this polish is exactly the same colour as my tea with milk this morning.
And for some reason, that makes me incredibly happy :)

I hope everyone's enjoying the end of the weekend.
Do anything fun? Get out in the summer sun?
I'm going to try to crochet my ass off tonight, since I've been lazy this weekend :P
Just need a good movie to work away to. Any recommendations?
Have a great night and an awesome manicure!

Holographic Citrus Dance Party

Hey all!
Last night I had the pleasure of seeing The B-52's in concert!
It was a childhood dream come true.

Months ago I was lamenting to a co-worker how my biggest regret was missing them last time they were in town.
And the very next day at lunch I see in the newspaper "B-52's on sale today!"
It was meant to be. Praise be to the music gods!

For a group with their kind of sound, bright and colourful nails were a must!
Something goofy and fun.
So I opted for a holographic citrus skittle!

So much holo goodness! (drooling)
And I'm thirsty for lemonade.

direct sunlight
indirect sunlight

What do you think?
Bright goofy and fun enough for you?
I'm not usually a big fan of skittle manis.
But if it's holographic, anything goes.
Too much is not enough!

I used Nubar - Reclaim and
Color Club - Kismet, Cosmic Fate & Miss Bliss

I dragged Dagadelic  to the show with me of course.
I cannot wait for her to post her concert mani.
We were totally on the same wave length. :)
So check her out soon!

Dagadelic also sent me this amazing live performance on Saturday Night Live in 1980.
They were so fantastic. And I'm proud to say they still are.
They've totally got it. Super high energy and just... happy.
You can always feel it when an artist is genuinely having fun performing.
It sparkles the performance. And their show was just as dazzling as my manicure.
Enjoy!

Hope everyone's having an excellent weekend.
I spent my morning recovering from last night.
But it was totally worth it. :)
Have a great night and an awesome manicure.

Stamp Sandwich

 Hey all,
Happy humpday.
What have you been up to?
I've been trying to crochet but the summer heat has made my baby blanket project much less appealing.
In December it will be perfect. But right now, ugh. Don't touch me! Instant sweat.
A few years ago I switched to friendship bracelets in the summer. I should get on that again. It's been too long.

Since it's been so bright and beautiful I wanted the same for my manicure.
I started out with Zoya - Purity and topped it with Northern Lights.
I thought this was pretty damn fantastic all on it's own, but I had to continue.

I wanted floral and squishy. So I stamped with Zoya - Raven
And then covered it in two coats of Zoya - Paloma

I love Paloma. I dyed my hair this colour when I was 15.
It's probably my favourite shade of pink.

This reminds me of a Hawaiian shirt.
What do you think?

Lately I've really been getting back into my record collection. Yep, good old fashion vinyl. There's something so special about records. The sound quality is so ...amazing. Fuller and richer than any digital file or CD (do people still listen to CD's? ...other than my friend Shade?) Even the sound dust makes adds to the overall experience. Sigh. I'm besotted.
So I thought I would honour my love and collection with...

On the Turntable...

Adam and the Ants - Kings of the Wild Frontier
I love this album. So much fun. Pirate songs. Cowboy songs. Adam's... quite a character.
But my favourite song is neither of those. I don't really know how to describe it.
"Ant music for sex people, sex music for ant people"?
And what does "Dirk wears white socks" have to do with anything?
Don't be Square be There is absurd, goofy, and has GREAT bass guitar. (drooling)
And for those reasons this has always been my number #1 on this awesome album.
Like Adam says, you might not like it now, but you will.
Enjoy!

Have a great week and an awesome manicure!
